The promoted product on Bestbuy is MEG ATX 3.1 PCIe 5.1 READY shown at top right corner of product. However, i received the product today March 26th 2025 and on the top right of box it says ATX 3.0 and PCIe 5.0 instead. How?

Beast of a unit

I previously had a 700W unit in my machine and after some recent hardware changes it just wasn't up to the task anymore. Playing a demanding game would crash my machine. This new unit is a beast with tons of overhead for my current setup. There's an awesome feature where you can plug the unit into a usb header on your motherboard and get a readout of your current usage. Sure enough playing Cyberpunk was running just my CPU and GPU and 700W and that doesn't even account for the rest of the hardware. This one comes with the new 16pin connector that's needed for the beefy 4000 series Nvidia GPUs and likely all flagship GPUs going forward so you're future proofed in that regard. Cultist Network PSU Tier list puts this at their highest ranking A tier.
One thing I do dislike. I've had it installed for about a week and there's a clear smell coming from it, like heated plastic. I had hoped this would wear off after a couple days but I can still smell it after nearly a week. If possible, try to run this unit in another room for a week or so while whatever new smell is burning off.

My Review of the MSI MEG Ai1300P PCIe5
When I bought the MSI MEG Ai1300P PCIe5, I wanted a PSU that could handle anything I threw at it. At 1300W, fully ATX 3.0 compliant, and with a native 12VHPWR connector, it looked like the perfect choice for powering high‑end GPUs. It’s compact at 160mm, fully modular, and built with quality Japanese capacitors, so installation and cable management were straightforward.
Standout Features - Power & Efficiency: 1300W output with an 80 PLUS Platinum rating means stable delivery and excellent efficiency, even under heavy loads. - Modularity: Only using the cables I need keeps airflow clean. - Build Quality: Cooling and component quality inspire confidence, and the 10‑year warranty backs that up. - Real‑time Monitoring: I love that I can plug the PSU into the motherboard and get live readouts of everything it’s doing. HWiNFO support means I don’t need MSI’s software, and seeing total system power draw in my RTSS overlay is something I’ve always wanted—it’s genuinely cool to watch in real time.
This PSU has powered my RTX 4090 for two years without a single issue, and now it’s running my RTX 5090 just as reliably. That said, I never trusted the original 12VHPWR cable on its own. For peace of mind, I bought 180‑degree adapters with heatsinks that use the newer 12V‑2×6 standard on both ends—first for the 4090, and now the reverse version for the 5090—because I wasn’t willing to risk my GPUs on the original spec.
One thing that really bothers me is that MSI quietly revised this PSU. The original units, like mine, shipped with the 12VHPWR port and cable that were quickly shown to be defective by design. The newer revision of the exact same model name now comes with a native 12V‑2×6 port and cable, which has a much lower failure rate. I contacted MSI to ask if they would at least send me one of the updated cables as a courtesy, given I paid a premium for their flagship PSU, and they flatly denied me. That felt like poor service. I believe they should replace or at least support original owners, but MSI hasn’t acknowledged the original PCIe 5.0 / ATX 3.0 spec as flawed, even though they moved to PCIe 5.1 / ATX 3.1 almost immediately.
Here in Canada, the Ai1300P usually retails for around $529.99 CAD, but it often goes on sale for $399.99 CAD—which is the price I paid. At that sale price, it’s easier to justify, though I still think MSI should have done right by early adopters.
The MSI MEG Ai1300P PCIe5 is a powerhouse PSU with excellent efficiency, stability, and build quality. It has kept my high‑end GPUs running flawlessly, but the way MSI handled the transition from 12VHPWR to 12V‑2×6 left a bad taste. For me, the hardware itself has been rock solid, but the lack of support for original buyers of their most expensive PSU is disappointing.
