Great looking bag but not the usual PD quality

I love the idea and every thing about the concept of this bag, but I’m left somewhat disappointed. I’ve had it a few months now and already it’s starting to look tatty. The shiny finish on the exterior marks easily. The pull string for the front flap is really stiff and very hard to open. I added the extra storage in the outside and the cords just went loose and then it ended up just bouncing around below the bag.

Can be better

I’ve used this backpack over several months, and sadly, I expected much better. Peak Design has accustomed us to beautiful, high-quality products, but this one feels like a breaking point. The bag is poorly thought out, both in terms of internal access and compartment functionality. You’re forced to purchase yet another cube, which is far from practical. The rear pocket isn’t perforated, causing water to pool, and as usual, all the essential accessories come at an extra cost.
This is an expensive bag right from the start, and it still requires significant additional investment to feel complete. It pains me to say this because I’ve always been a strong supporter of the brand — but this bag is a failure. I truly regret investing in it.

Good but not all the time

To start with the good, I really like the looks, the way you need to get into the bag and the possibilities you have with the strap system.
That said, I find it to be a bit too small, I have to shove my computer in with some difficulties. Also I believe a small pocket somewhere would have been a nice thing to add.

I purchased this bag to use for a travel kit for photography. While I can certainly configure it for a small kit, I do find it to be a bit heavy when adding the packing cubes (ie. the medium and the xxs) and my 16" MacBook Pro. Additionally, I am a 6'4" man with a somewhat athletic build and broad shoulders and find that the shoulder straps and quite tight and small. I will use the bag around town mostly slinging it on one shoulder but most likely not use it for any long trips requiring it to be on both shoulders. Construction is excellent as with all Peak Design Products.

Okay but...

The bag is nice overall speaking, can load a lot of stuff in it while still maintaining a relatively slim profile. However after three months of everyday usage the front-left zipper puller was broken. As shown in the photo attached I have to tie the two strings up in order to continue using it. Is there any warranty service for this part?

Possibly the Worst Backpack I've Ever Owned
on April 24, 2025

This backpack is the worst one I have ever owned. The shoulder straps are too wide and don't sit comfortably. The back panel, after only a few months of use, has bent leaving a sharp line across the lower back making it extremely uncomfortable (unless there is a laptop in the bag acting as support for the back). The side pockets are not easily accessible, making getting a water bottle in and out very difficult. The interior is like a vast black hole. There are not interior pockets aside from the laptop one. I even purchased the additional smedium camera packing cube to fit in it, but it does not fit the two camera bodies and lenses well (as I had expected) and I find that when clipped into the bag I have to open it too much to access the gear (resulting in the possibility of gear/equiptment falling out and breaking). The only small pockets are in the front of the bag, these are good but limited. The main pocket is a rolling top and the sides do not stretch/extend much so you can not really stuff it full. The very front pocket does not provide any additional stretch at all so when filling it takes up interior space by pushing into the bag instead of outward.
If this bag had some sort of built-in interior pockets it would be much better. I previously had the Peak Design Everyday Backpack and it was SO MUCH BETTER! Pockets and storage for days, accessible side pockets, laptop sleeve, etc. I switched because I wanted something that had the hip straps for the backcountry/hiking I do with my gear. It was a mistake and this bag is so poorly designed that I may never purchase another Peak Design bag again.

Exactly what I expected from a first edition bag

Excellent personal item on an airplane. Recently did some work travel and it really did everything that I needed it to. Compact, very secure, easy to carry, and plenty of room for staying organized. Fortunately for me, the weather was great and I didn’t get to test the water resistance of the bag.
Things that I hope to see cleaned up in a future version:
-The cord securing the front of the bag, when pulled tightly, gets stuck on something internally and it becomes difficult to open the front of the bag. I get it open by wiggling it around pretty aggressively, but that’s not ideal for a quick access area.
-Maybe add a small internal pocket in the main part of the bag for small items to be stored away from larger items. Something only large enough for basic EDC pocket items. Pens, chapstick, charger, cash, etc.
Overall, great bag. I’m very excited to test it on a much longer trip next month. Will update my review afterwards.
