Rock-Solid Mount for Your Precious Mobile Phone

As a long-time dual-sport motorcycle rider and PD fanboy, I was super excited to help back the Kickstarter in part because of the promise of this bar mount. It did not disappoint! Easy to install, tech-sexy to look at, and extremely flexible angle choices that fit in my modified and cramped cockpit.
The mag + locking mechanism mated with a vibration dampener was very comforting, and you just know the guys who designed and built this are riders. The button releases on the back to take the phone off are genius in that you only need to press on one side to unlock. Way better than any RAM mount configuration.
I've logged well over a thousand miles, on highways, twisty backroads, and dirt fire roads beta testing this mount and it has never given me a pause to question its reliability or fitness for purpose. Definitely recommend!
If you ride a motorcycle and have a desire to mount your phone in a way that is (a) visible to you, (b) totally secure while moving, and (c) easily removable with one hand; then this Peak Design mount is THE option. Seriously. It is so simple and satisfying to use. This sets the new standard for motorcycle phone mounts.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A Mixed Bag of Innovations and Inconveniences

I used the Motorcycle Bar Mount V1, which I loved, especially the hassle-free case that came with it. When I decided to upgrade to the Motorcycle Bar Mount Charging Qi2, I faced some issues.
Let’s start with the positives:
- The SlimLink connection remains secure and hassle-free, just like the previous version. - The new ball-and-socket design allows for flexible positioning of the phone, which is a significant improvement. - Assembly is as easy as before, making it a convenient upgrade. - According to Qi2 specifications, the wireless charging supports PD, which means it can fast-charge devices. However, this feature is likely only supported with a USB-C connection, possibly the SAE connection, and definitely not the USB-A connection.
Now, let’s address the drawbacks:
- The cable is excessively long, which is the least significant issue. Considering that the USB-C or USB-A connections on most bikes are close to the instruments and handlebars, there’s no practical need for almost 3 feet of cable. While you can tie it off, it’s still a hassle and can make the bike look messy, especially on naked bikes like mine. Second and most glaringly, the wireless charger mount has a fixed 4-inch cable extending from the back, and it’s proprietary. If the cable weren’t fixed, I wouldn’t mind the connection. However, since it’s fixed, the entire system is vulnerable to water damage. You must plug in the included USB-C cable to their proprietary connection, but then what? If you park your bike outside on a rainy day, you have to figure out how to protect the USB-C connector from the elements. Personally, I have to stow the cable under my seat, which means I have to take it out every time I want to ride, secure it with cable ties, and then reverse the process when I reach my destinations. This adds approximately 5 minutes of unnecessary preparation to every single ride. And I can’t even unplug the cable from the proprietary connection, despite some half-hearted attempts. I’m not sure if it’s recommended to try unplugging it, but even if it’s meant to be removable, you only get so many of those before the connection gets damaged. Since it’s proprietary, there aren’t any aftermarket parts to waterproof the connector when it’s not connected. At least you can buy third-party waterproof caps for USB-C and USB-A connectors. I don’t understand why they chose this design when there were other, far better options. By choosing this design, they’ve eliminated any notion of permanence for the mount on a bike because it’s not waterproof. Other brands have opted to have a USB-C connector integrated into the mount, making it as simple as unplugging the USB-C cable and stowing it. A cap for the USB-C connector attached to the cable would be ideal. I hope that Peak Design makes a third version of this mount that includes wireless charging and a more permanent waterproof design. As it is, I can only recommend this to people with USB-C connections that are secured in a place safe from the elements.

This would be the absolute best mat on the market if they added the wireless charging option to it. The one for my car is fantastic and would be even better for my bike.

BRILLIANT MOTORCYCLE PHONE MOUNT, GET IT!

I have both the 1" ball PD mount and this PD Motorcycle mount, they both work equally as well. The arm for the 1" ball has a wider foot print than this mount, this one has a minimalist approach if you like that. I attached photos of both so you can see the difference. The previous motorcycle mount system I was fine and secure, but this one is far easier to use, has a smaller footprint, and looks better. The previous system required you to insert slots on case onto brackets on mount and twist to lock in. Sometimes it worked easily, and other times took considerable effort. The PD is consistently easily, just put the phone on top of the mount and the magnets pull it in and mechanically lock it in place. It is very easy to remove with 1 hand. It is very easy to remove and mount the phone even while riding, though I rarely need to do that. The PD mounts have vibration isolators (dampeners) built right into them, so you don't have to worry about bike vibration damaging your phone camera. The previous system i used required you to buy an extra dampener, take the mount apart and install dampener to it. PD makes things so much simpler.

Great mount, questionable connectors

A well designed product. Super solid when mounted, secure connection to my phone and the damper functionality is just right (I can still read my screen while riding).
The only gripe I have is with the wired connection. The wire is permanently mounted to the charging base so if it gets damaged, the entire charging base is toast. And the barrel connector that joins the unit to the USB cable is VERY delicate. I don't intend on separating it now that's it's attached so hopefully it'll continue to work.

The Motorcycle Mount King

I've had the pleasure to use the Moto Mount for a couple of months now and it's hard to imagine riding without it. I have a Bluetooth motorcycle helmet and now I can see who's calling me, which is handy. I also like that I can more easily map out my rides and see where I'm going.
The metal design and how the magnets work with the case make everything else on the market feels like junk. Peak Design didn't cut corners on quality that will last. While my friends sport their rigid, cheap-feeling plastic cases, I love using my sleek case and my quick ability to lock my phone to my motorcycle.
The price may seem like a premium but the mount is premium. I've ridden in crazy winds, rain, and all sorts of adverse weather with no problems effecting the mount. It's something that will last for years to come. It's quality that lasts.

Fuss free phone mounting

Have been testing the moto bar mount for about 2 months right now. It is by far the easiest mount out in the market to use. You do not need to find the correct angle for the locking mechanism to work as the magnet will help to align your phone to the mount.
