My parents gave me a transistor radio similar to this for my birthday when I was in junior high, so this build was all about the memories. Love it!

I was looking for a Lego set to challenge me and came across the Lego retro radio. I definitely enjoyed the features that came with the radio. The sound brick and the turning of dials was a bonus .Overall such a wonderful built. For the price it was well worth it.

I am a fairly new builder and hobbyist of LEGO (had them as a kid growing up).
The work instructions were good but at times not clear too me. Personally when it came to the turner and on off knobs steps that's when the sound brick should have been placed in the model. I understand saving it for the last step for the reveal. However there is a problem to that. When i did the steps for the knobs and the little function the knobs worked great. Cut to the end when turning the turner after the placing the sound block in and nothing was happening.I couldn't see if the function was working why? Everything was closed up! Removing the back paneled did nothing. I had to break apart the sides to get the pins out to look at the function (II rebuilt it and before closing it all up again put the sound brick in and it worked. That's when i noticed that the function and the tuner knob was a hard turn. I thought i did something wrong again but after watching other reviews and reading comments from other sites about this build that that the tuner function and turn is supposed to feel like that (almost forcing the 3 balls to turn to push the pc into the sound brck and people all had problems with the function not working) My opinion the complete function should be done together with the sound brick while the front was still open so you can see !) it works of course 2)your not taking a lot of pcs off to get to it. Once the 4 pins are in for the speaker/grill pc you couldn't see anything.
I think the pcs/steps for the putting your phone in there was not needed as this is something that did not draw me into this pc.

Vintage Tunes

This kit was fairly easy and a lot of fun to build. It’s also fun to play with after you’re done. Then it’s time to put it on the shelf and admire it from afar as a treasured addition to your collection. The design and styling is spot on for the time period that a portable transistor radio would be from. Of course, the “sound brick” is what makes it all worthwhile and the mechanisms that you build inside that activate it are reliable and work well.

Fun at a great price

This was an easy build and really ends up being nice looking display piece once completed. The sound quality is also pretty good using a cell phone because it has that slightly "hollow" sound. Out of all of the vintage sounds from the sound brick, I really enjoyed the static one because no radio would be authentic without one.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Frustrating But Fun

I had to take this set apart completely after bag 4 bc things were not fitting together like I'd hoped but I figured it out. I love the sound brick and pastels. Have tried to put my phone inside but it seems like it would be a tight fit. Love the handle on the radio but wish it back was hinged
