I’ve been waiting for the X-Mansion set since there were designs of it back in 2014 on Lego Ideas and was excited when it was part of Lego Super Heroes in 2013. Overall, I really enjoyed this set and the hidden Easter eggs throughout. You can tell the designers put a lot of thought into how the build could satisfy the fans and still make it fun for play. There are two hangups that really make it hard to give it a full 5 stars. 1. The amount of minifigs is good for the set, but they are similar (if not exactly the same) as minifigs released in other sets earlier this year. With many iconic X-Men characters, even if you pull the ones from X-Men ‘97 that could’ve filled the roster. 2. The scale of the mansion, for the price I was thinking it would be closer to the scale of the Home Alone House. I was a little bummed with the scale since it’s been a long awaited set for me, but I’m glad it has finally been created. I can only hope this spawns more iconic X-Men themed sets! Overall, it’s a great set for an X-Men fan at any age!
As many have stated before me, this is an extremely small set. My fears were initiated when I saw the three mini-base plates, and was further confirmed when I finished the first book. The exterior looks good. The Sentinel is an excellent model. The interior is horrible. It is way too small.
As usual with Lego these days, they take a 24(?) stud length base and the house uses about 1/2 of that length. The rest is the front yard and 4 studs in the back, because....why? This is a practice they have been using with the modular buildings for years now and it is frustrating in it's lack of optimizing the space.
So, while the Danger Room is two stories, the interior space is roughly 7 x 7, where with better use of the space provided could have easily expanded to 10 x 10 or larger.
The Easter eggs are neat, and there are some new building techniques that I'll use on my MOC's, but the experience of this build is generally not fun.
As a lifelong "X-Fan", I had to have this set! The build was incredibly fun & detailed, and I loved all the little hidden easter eggs & references that were tucked in to the different rooms of the mansion. The X-Mansion also makes a truly dynamic display piece, and you can create some seriously epic battles with all the minifigs & the giant Sentinel. I was genuinely impressed with the build quality, the level of detail in the mansion, the minifigs, and all the different ways you can attach & display the figures
Although I liked everything about this build I would have liked to have seen it bigger. I think going to the five hundred dollar price point to do this would have been good. Avenger Tower did not disappoint at all and I feel this could have been just as good. Still, I really do like this set and hope for more in the X universe.
As a long time X Men fan I was happy to see this modular come into existence. I would love to see more X Men mini figures in the future such as Jubilee and Nightcrawler. I would also like to see a big fig Juggernaut too.
This is an awesome set overall, I see a lot gripes about the scale and whatnot but it honestly looks great in person. There is a ton of details packed into each room. Could the rooms have been bigger? Sure. Honestly, I'm not playing with it though, it's sitting on a shelf and for that purpose it looks great with all the X-men Minifigures displayed in front. If you did want to play with it there are more points to mount figures in action poses than any set I've seen of this size. My only gripe is that it should have come with more Minifigures for the price. I'm sure the missing obvious choices like jubilee will come in some additional product release which I look forward too but it would have been nice to get them now instead of a 2nd rogue, wolverine (3rd?+), or cyclops - or better yet all of the above. The gwp made it worth it for me either way. Had to add a review as I see people lowering the ratings complaining about box condition they received and other unrelated things as if that has anything to do with the set in question... Would recommend.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I love this set, as a huge fan of X-men and the new X-men 97 show, this set is the best way to bring back that nastolgia. It's a great size for those that don't have tons of space, while still capturing the X-men feel. It makes me want to collect all the X-men minifigs now. It's a great start to the evolving X-men franchise with LEGO.
