TurboTax is superb

A simple but serious flaw that lowers my opinion

Mostly good, if not for one glaring shortfall; failure to ask for the all-important IP Pin! Without this, the IRS will reject an otherwise perfect return. I learned this the hard way on my previous year's TurboTax return, when I endured the shock of a rejected return, and had to refile because the software had not asked for for this critical piece of information. I was on the alert for it this year, and did some searching on the Intuit website to find the way to add it before filing, but I'm very unhappy to find the error is still present! Without this problem, I would have given at least four stars; but finding the flaw still present, especially in software that touts itself as being so superior, I had no choice but to give a rating that might catch the attention of someone at Intuit.

It's just okay and pushes for upgrades

Turbo Tax worked for me. That is, it computed my taxes (hopefully correctly) and filed electronically without any issues. The filing module was the most intuitive part of the program with lots of help.
several years ago I used Turbo Tax for a number of years before switching to a less costly competing product (whose name rhymes with axe hut). The primary difference was that Turbo Tax had a better UI. This year I switched back to Turbo Tax because of an issue with the other product's online payment system. I was expecting a better UI than I am accustomed to, but to my surprise, the new Turbo Tax UI isn't as good (IMHO). While it is mostly okay, but less like being guided and more like navigating data entry that sometimes seems a bit messy and requires a fair number of unnecessary steps to do some of the entry.
The one thing that really bugs me is the constant push to purchase an upgrade. In the 21st century where AI makes everything better (except coffee) there should be no question of which version of Turbo Tax is needed. The Basic version of the program had ought to be smart enough to know when it is out of it's league and advise that I need the upgrade version for a complex tax situation. Similar to that is the constant push to buy the state tax add-on when it knows that I'm filing in a state that does not have an income tax (in all fairness, the competing product does this too).

TurboTax BASIC is a Scam!

Buy the deluxe version if you file state taxes. The basic version only exists to charge you an extra 10$ and slow roll the process. Extremely deceptive service.
