TurboTax Basic

I've used TurboTax Basic for many years with good results. This year was a little different. When I attempted to E-file my return, it was rejected by the IRS with the stated reason that there was a difference between the AGI for 2023 in my 2024 return and the AGI for 2023 in IRS records. I then went through the "Fix It" process in TurboTax, verified that the AGI from my 2023 tax return was correct in my 2024 tax return, then re-submitted my return by E-file several more times. My return came back rejected each time. So I finally changed the filing method and filed by mail. There appears to be a "glitch" somewhere in the system.

Fix the RMD calculation

I have used Turbo Tax since 2009. I have figured out the quirks of the program and it is now mostly routine. This year my wife had 9 individual IRA which required a RMD of $63,478.27. The program required that I divide that number into an entry for each of the IRA accounts, and never indicated the total RMD amount. This is a very difficult way to have to enter the information. All of these accounts are with Vanguard and only the total RMD amount is ever used.

It is always comforting to use Turbo Tax. Everything is explained very clearly. I like being able to save and exit for the day and come back to it in the same place I left it. I appreciate the little comments like: "We know it is taking a while" that reassure me that something is happening behind my screen and that it will move on soon. I have never been audited. I trust that your explanations are honest.

Fixed!!

Great! Easy to use. No missed steps. Does all of the math for me, and it fills out all of the required forms.
But there was one glitch, which your staff helped me answer. It may have been related to a seemingly unfixable problem with my small laptop. The Social Security fill-in page would not come up on my screen. I went to the Forms page and filled in the necessary info on my wife and me. However, Form 1040 while showing the SS income, showed the taxable amount as zero. I knew that was wrong and with your helper, we found that for some reason there was the full amount of the SS income showing on the line for "Foriegn Address" exemption, thus no taxable amount. He showed me how to override that amount to zero, and then all was fixed. Thank you for your help!
