Always has Issues it Seems

I have three of the Vertical Pit Boss Smokers, Pro Series. One is an older model and I love it, no issues after years of use and Lord only knows how many smokes. I bought a second smoker that is this model and it takes forever to get to temp but once it finally does, it holds that temp good. I can live with that.
However the one I am leaving a review on is the latest I bought and I have had it about a year, I think I am being very generous with a 3 star rating. Them temp is totally inconsistent, if you want to smoke something at 230, you just have to play with it and see what mood it's in that day. You may end up with the setting on 190 or maybe on 280 to get a temp of 230. The only thing more aggravating than it's inconsistency is calling customer support. In the past, they have been wonderful but that seems to have changed for some reason.
I have called 4 times on this smoker, when I tell them what is happening they then proceed to ask me a lot of questions...asking what i just told them, they don't listen. Some give suggestions but of course none of those can be followed through while on the phone, others blame it on my startup process which is what Pit Boss has told me to do and works on the other two, and one even argued with me. All resulted in zero help at all. I just had an ignitor go out on it, I just ordered a replacement from EBay, just easier than dealing with customer service again from my last 4 experiences.
I cater a lot of meals with smoked meat and have all three smokers fired up at least a couple of times a month, often more. I am about to add another and I don't think it will be another Pit Boss, they have not been helpful on this last smoker at all. BTW, I have only had to call customer support 2 other times with the other smokers and like I said they were great, it's not like I am calling all of the time over little stuff.

So far so good... no issues with heat or anything. I put foil paper inside to keep the clean up as easy as possible... Also, I always unplug if I am not using it... I have used it about 7 times inside of 3 months... I have done Ribs, Pork Leg, Deer Leg and a Brisket - taste and tenderness of meat was perfect, held the temp and gave it perfect smoke flavor.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Super temperature control.

I just bought this smoker 5 or 6 days ago. I smoked pork chops and Saint Lewis style rips Saturday and Saint Lewis style ribs a 2 pork loins Sunday.. Temperature controller kept the temperature with in 3 degrees of set point. My other pellet grill would have 15 degrees swings from set point and at times more. It is not a Pit Boss. I used the meat prob on Sunday for the pork loin and it worked perfectly. I did use a pellet smoke box Sunday for heavily smoked ribs. But, Saturdays rib were well smoked with a great smoke ring. I down loaded the app for the grill on my phone. Saturday I went to the liquor store, about 4 or 5 miles away. I was able to monitor the grill the whole time. I have been smoking on pellet grills around 4 years, and smoking on vertical off set log, charcoal grills for over 30 years. I can smoke with this new Pit Boss grill with the same flavor and half the work as the log smoker.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Bottom door latch nearly impossible to latch, after use, powered down, went thru complete cycle, unplugged from power source & the pellets continued to burn all night the hopper...emptied remaining pellets & it continued to smoke for 6 hours for a total of 20 hours after power disconnected...hope to be able to return & get my money bac...completely disappointed in this product...

I bought this less than a month ago and the control panel has already died. I did call customer support and they are sending a new control panel. I was excited to make Christmas dinner with it, but the parts won't be here for 7-10 days. As my title states, extremely dissapointed.

Love the Smoker but the App ruins the experience

The smoker is great. We have loved everything we have cooked on it. The app on the other hand is horrible! Every time use the smoker I spend hours trying to get the app to work. Don’t waste your money on Pitt Boss. There are other, cheaper smokers that don’t have an app that work fine. Why pay extra for something that doesn’t work.
