Nice laptop, runs too hot

Construction: This is a high quality laptop made of hard, stiff plastic with little body or deck flex. It has high quality white keyboard backlighting and a large but not abnormally-sized touchpad. The screen is made from glass, and the device has silicone feet anywhere it may be placed down. The hinges are made of aluminum with plastic pieces in them. I am somewhat concerned about their longevity given past x360 models.
Software: Most of the HP software is unnecessary and I uninstalled it. The fan is not user-controllable, which is unfortunate because the stock fan curve is awful and the fan doesn't ramp up sometimes even as the machine is actively thermal throttling.
IO: Adequate. The USB ports are too close together and the user cannot connect 2 USB drives at once without using thin drives or an extension cable. The USB C port with bidirectional charging is a good feature, but it should be on the same side as the regular charging port. Alternatively, remove the regular port altogether and use only USB C.
Keyboard and Touch: The keyboard is good with good backlighting. The row of function keys on the right is annoying and I often press HOME or END or something trying to backspace. Putting power buttons on the keyboard is stupid, but this laptop does it anyways. The trackpad is very good, no notes. The touchscreen is solid enough to do basic digital art on but fails to do some extremely fine tasks sometimes. The fingerprint scanner is solid, but often takes multiple attempts.
Performance: This laptop struggles doing anything more than watching YouTube, but that's all most people need. Windows feels snappy and responsive, and programs like Word run with no lag to speak of. The CPU runs way too hot, however, and often thermal throttles and slows the entire system to a crawl during video calls. The battery is good, charges fast, and lasts an average amount of time - about what I would expect from an Intel x64 laptop.
Overall: This is a very solid daily machine that can slip easily into a bag and be quickly flipped open at any library, coffee shop, or bedroom. The integrated pen is good for notes. The laptop should not be used for any intensive tasks, however, because it runs hot enough to throttle the CPU, damaging performance and potentially causing small amounts of long term damage to the device.

Keys are Very Difficult to Read.

I haven’t used my new laptop much yet but the one and only thing I don’t like about it is that I find the keys are very hard to read. The lettering is almost the same color as the key itself. I wish I knew this before purchasing. Maybe HP has a solution for this.

This is my second Pavilion. This new unit replaced one that needed to be retired due to broken hinges. Concerning the new model.....fantastic screen, and love the backlit keyboard.

Just what I needed

The computer works quite well for my needs. Yes, I am over 18, 83 to be exact. I needed a unit that would allow me to sit at my kitchen table and pay bills, check email and do a little shopping. This one is a fit. I will never use all of the bells and whistles but am quite happy with the way it fits my needs. It was easy to set up, too.

A good laptop, but needs improvement

My laptop was delivered on 9/19/2024, and completely froze and black screened on October 21, 2024. The laptop would not re-boot at all. I had to get a friend who was a technical expert to help me get the laptop to boot. This was disappointing for a new laptop. Other than this concerning issue, the laptop works fine, and I'm enjoying using it. Just not certain I would order another HP product after this experience. We'll see after a few years of using the HP Pavilion.

So far, the laptop has been excellent. Good performance and no issues. It isn't a high-performance laptop, and I knew that when I made the purchase, but it is perfect for the application for which it was purchased.

It's a nice-looking laptop but I wish it was bigger and had a numeric keypad. It's also my 1st touch screen laptop, which I thought I would love, but I do not, because I keep accidentally closing windows when physically adjusting the positioning of the laptop screen. Also I find it hard to keep it clean and it's not even been 30 days, so I ordered some 3rd part accessories to help (which they were hard to find for this model). I think my favorite features are the backlit keyboard and the fingerprint reader, other than that I think I just spent a lot on the astetics/cosmetics lol.
