The one thing I'm unsure about that was a little annoying was that I was trying to download the software on 2 PCs. We (my son) had purchased the software with the 5 licenses. I was trying to download the software on my laptop & use the code since we have 5 to use, & couldn't find a way to download it without paying another fee. I can't say I looked really hard, but thought that I could download the software free as long as we already had a license with 5 returns available.

Some features can be modified such as standard deduction and itemized deduction. If I already know my itemized deduction much less than standard deduction, I should be able opt-out your interview for questions and calculations for itemized deduction. People can save time and effort.

I've been using H&R Block and its predecessor Tax Cut since 1995 so I have a long term perspective of how it's evolved over the years. It's a solid tax preparation application, though I've always wondered why some parts of the process are well documented and offer useful information for ordinary filers like me to navigate through the tax code (particularly when a set of guided questions are offered for certain areas), while other parts, especially later in the forms, become very terse and expect the filer to be an experienced CPA with a law degree and a second job as an actuarial retirement plan expert. For example, there will often be a list of 30 items with a heading of "Do you have any of these? (uncommon)" and while most are obviously inapplicable, there are some that are so generally worded that it seems possible that I might be eligible (like "Energy saving expenditures?" or something like that) but there aren't any links to explanatory materials for us neophytes. It's not enough to say "See IRS form 4236"; even a paragraph of high level description would help answer the filer's question in seconds and be immensely valuable. If there might be a reasonable chance that I'm eligible after considering such a paragraph, then I'd go read the form. Someone needs to do a careful review of the credits and deductions sections of the app from the customer's perspective.
The other thing that bugs me is the end game. There aren't clear pathways to go right to things like making an e-copy of the submission or re-running the verification or changing from e-filing to mail or vice versa. I sometimes have to go back to the calculation part of the app and move forward into the Finished part of the app to find what I want, which can be frustrating because the "smart" branching will sometimes skip over the section I want because it thinks I've done it already.
Trust me.. I like the software and will continue to purchase it as long as I'm still filing. But it can't always be designed with the idea that most people who don't know anything will only need to be guided through the stuff that 99% will require and the people who will need to do the other 1% are experienced tax preparers who need no help whatsoever.

I’ve been using Tax Cut/H&R Block for over twenty years and have had good luck with the program. The only issue I’ve had is its limited functionality for K1’s from public limited partnerships. Since it does all of the 1099’s, it should include those also other than that, it is good with a lot of different schedules and forms
