H&R Block software and internet connection is a great convenience for filing your taxes from the comfort of home. While there are quite a few things to sort and try to understand, I was able to complete my taxes and file them online in one day.
Pros: Easy to prepare, Easy to import documents

But this to do my taxes and it does a pretty decent job. There are some areas where it doesn't provide enough detail to give the answers you need, but overall the guided process is very good. My real gripe is I paid to do e-filing and then once I did that, I got hit with a huge charge to use my credit card on top of the cost of the software and the cost fortge e-filing option. That seems wrong I know they'll say they have no control over the payment service but if they don't contract with one that charges such outrageous fees that would be control wouldn't it?

I have used this software for more than 10 years from the start of your having this software. I haave encountered issue the last three years with your software not being user friendly and leaving major areas of questions that aren't apparent.in the help center This year the efiling of my federal and state returns were a problem that casued several days of wainting and calls to the Help Center and I still haven't gotten a comfortable feeling about my returns.. My federal was finally accepted today and now I have to see what your software questions in the state return even after I have done the accuracy check many times. Something about my spouses date of living in Ohio aren't correct but the accuracy check doesn't find anything wrong. The software says I have to file on paper and mail. which isn't anything I want to do.

I have been using this software for a very long time (20 years?), starting with several years of time when it was still called TaxCut. Overall I have been super happy with this program. It makes doing taxes tremendously easier than attempting to do it myself, I trust it to get my taxes right, and it's what recommend it to others.
I did try using TurboTax one time (4 or 5 yr ago?), and it produced some results that didn't make sense to me at all. Consequently I went back to HR Block, did it over again, and got results that were not only different, but made a whole lot more sense, so that's what I used. So thank you for putting out an excellent product that makes life much easier that we can depend on.
As for suggestions for improvement, here are a few (relatively minor) things that I believe it would help to address:
For Indiana Tax, the section "Enter Taxes Added Back to Indiana Income": This section is challenging and kind of scary for a non-expert. Please either have the program do this work automatically, or provide more guidance on what the user needs to do. As a non-expert, it's time-consuming to look through those forms to try to figure out what I should pay attention to and what I shouldn't. I think I generally end up deciding that there's nothing to add back, but it's stressful wondering if I really did it right or not. At the minimum, please at least point out what lines (on Sch C, E, and F) the pertinent taxes are on that need to be added back, so that the users knows which values on Sch C, E, and F are the pertinent ones. Thanks!
For renting out a portion of your home: For 2024 I helped my son with his taxes (he bought the premium version), and we spent a long time messing with the section on renting, until we finally found a note saying that if you are renting a part of the home you live in, you should instead enter the info into the miscellaneous income section. So my suggestion is to put that note right up front in the renting section, so that you don't spend a lot of time on the renting section unnecessarily.
Help with issues with the function of the software: In the past, I had called HR Block "help" once, and got excellent assistance. However, with my son's 2024 return, we ran into an output from the software that looked like it was incorrect. So we called HR Block help, and no matter how we tried, it seemed that it was impossible to talk to anyone about a problem with the function of the software itself. (We were told to call the IRS, which was a tad offensive). So we gave up (and, eventually, we figured out that the software was correct and we were wrong). Now, I can understand that perhaps it does happen, with some frequency, that people incorrectly think the software has a problem, and that you can't necessarily take the time to troubleshoot everyone's tax issues when maybe they're just mistaken -- but it seems like there should be *some* way to bring up such an issue (and if there is, let your support staff inform people what it is), and not present such a totally impenetrable brick wall and deaf ear to someone trying to get through with an issue. (As an additional issue -- I don't recall the specifics -- the support person demonstrated a lack of basic knowledge of tax preparation on a particularly simple point.)
Notwithstanding of any minor issues, however -- as mentioned before - I really appreciate HR Block software very much! The excellence of your product has made me very loyal, and I thank you again for this program that makes my life so much easier!

Why isn't Interactive Brokers in your list of Brokers? I had to manually enter my transaction data. Other than that, a great program.

While we have used HR Block for many years, and are generally very pleased with the product, there continue to be some areas of the process that could use a little more clarity in guiding completers. I find that there continue to be some things I simply have to leave the application and research independently. And some wording leaves a little confusion as to whether I am inserting the correct info in the correct area.

Everything was fine until the end of the return. Then, your software insist I fix "errors" , often multiple times, in the worksheets. I spent half the time doing my return fixing what shouldn't have had to be fixed in the first place. Suggest you fix your software.
