Slip and Slide handle

I purchased my Oral-B i02 toothbrush from my dentist because my previous Oral-B electric toothbrush stopped holding a charge months ago. Whoever designed and approved this version of the Oral-B toothbrush needs to review logistics of toothbrush design with the Tooth Fairy. Unlike my other Oral-B brushes, this one has no textured grip on the handle. When the handle gets wet, as happens with toothbrushes, it slips from my hand. I bought some non-slip strips for the bathtub and applied them to the handle of my brush so I can maintain a grip on the handle while I brush. At least the toothbrush holds a charge!

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Didn't even last one year!

Poor quality. It lasted less than a year, and unfortunately I didn't keep my receipt. It kept a charge for a few months, but then wouldn't recharge. Complete junk!

Amy, we never want you to feel disappointed when investing in an Oral-B iO Series 2 toothbrush, so we're sorry you're having charging issues, and we'd like to help. Oral-B electric toothbrushes should last between 3-5 years. It's helpful to know when charging your toothbrush, it must be powered off before putting it on the charger. Also, ensure the charger is not near or on a metal surface, as it can interfere with the electromagnetic charger. A full charge can take up to 22 hours, so make sure the brush is placed on the charging pin correctly. If placed incorrectly, the charging light will still be on but not charging. Your satisfaction means everything to us, and we'd like to learn more and help you troubleshoot your iO2. When you have time, please give us a call at 1-800-566-7252, 9 am-6 pm EST, Monday-Friday.

Lots of black mold. Steer clear.

My dentist insisted I get an Oral B IO because I have crowded teeth and I would get a better clean. I ditched my sonicare for this toothbrush and I regret it deeply. I just got through picking an inch thick layer of black mold from the toothbrush connector. It is so poorly designed to have that issue. I’m mortified.

We never want you to feel disappointed when using your iO2, Chandler. Our products undergo rigorous quality checks to reach you in perfect condition, allowing you to get the ultimate teeth-cleaning experience. The iO series 2 is designed with openings on the brush heads to allow water to flush through the brush head tube and let air inside. This venting ensures the brush head dries sufficiently after use and reduces moisture inside the tube. What you have described can occur if the brush is stored in a location exposed to mold and bacteria, and the plastic comes into contact with ingredients of a corrosive nature. Certain ingredients used in those types of products can make the plastic porous, allowing dirt and moisture to find places to settle. To avoid this, it's important to always rinse your brush head thoroughly after each use to prevent residue from building up and blocking the openings. Your satisfaction means everything to us, and we'd like to learn more about your experience with your iO2. When you have time, please give us a call at 1-800-566-7252, 9 am-6 pm EST, Monday-Friday.

Great for brushing but doesn't stay clean inside

5 stars for teeth-cleaning ability! I changed to Oral B at the recommendation of my periodontist as I have a history of gum recession. I've enjoyed the teeth-cleaning features of this brush.
Unfortunately, I've had recurring issues with keeping this toothbrush clean. After just 2 months of regular use I began to detect a mildewy smell. The design, while sleek, tends to keep water inside - both the brush head and the handle head. I replace my brush head regularly but that does not solve the issue of the mold inside the handle head. I've now had the brush for 5 months and clean it every day according to Oral B instructional videos (disassemble and thoroughly rinse and dry both parts, allow to dry separately overnight); however, this still hasn't solved the problem. It's nearly impossible to dry all the crevices out completely after rinsing, and the brush head can't stand up on its own to dry overnight. I've soaked it in vinegar, denture cleaner, soap, etc., and still struggled to get rid of the smell. I don't really want to clean my teeth with something that molds easily - and I'm really bummed about it. I might switch to a different toothbrush model that doesn't have so many crevices.

We understand the importance of knowing that your toothbrush is sanitary, and we are disappointed to hear that you have been experiencing mold with your Oral-B iO Toothbrush. When designing our products, we dedicate much time to consumer testing and product research to ensure that we are bringing you exceptional products for your oral care, and this is not something we would expect. It sounds like you have been doing a wonderful job at cleaning your toothbrush the recommended way, by thoroughly rinsing and pulling apart the brush head and handle, and allowing them to air dry. It is important to note that while it is ok to wash them with a mild detergent, certain cleaning solutions may cause the plastic to become porous and allow bacterial growth. We would love a chance to learn more about your experience so we are better able to assist you, as well as gather some additional information for our Quality Team, and encourage you to give us a call at (800) 566-7252.

While the toothbrush itself works great, the design leads to massive mold growth. Despite following the recommended cleaning and maintenance of both the handle and replacement heads, mold grows.

We understand the importance of knowing that your toothbrush is sanitary, and we are disappointed to hear that you have experienced mold on your Oral-B iO 2 Toothbrush. All of our products go through rigorous research and consumer testing in the hopes of bringing you a product you will love, and please know that your feedback is being shared with our Quality Team. It sounds like you do a great job of cleaning your brush every day, and this is not something that we would expect. For a deeper cleaning, we recommend soaking the adapter portion of the brush in warm water overnight, scrubbing with a soft-bristle brush, and then holding the adapter under warm water while it is running, before drying the brush off. We would love a chance to learn more about your experience so we are better able to assist you, and we encourage you to give our team a call at (800) 566-7252.

Do Not Buy!

My husband bought me this for Christmas and I hate it. By the time you're done brushing your teeth the whole handle of the toothbrush is nothing but slime from the toothpaste and your hand is also covered in wet toothpaste. Would not recommend.

We're sorry that you're not enjoying the present your husband picked up for you, Micky. We always hope consumers will love their iO2, and appreciate the thorough clean it delivers. It might help to know that you only need a small dollop of toothpaste on the brush head when brushing. Then, don’t turn the brush on until it’s inside your mouth. Once it’s working, let the brush do the work, moving it from tooth to tooth, without scrubbing. If you’d like more help with this, know we’re here to help, and hope you’ll give us a call any Monday-Friday, from 9 AM to 6 PM, EST, at 1 (800) 566-7252.

Horrible Toothbrush

A few years ago My dentist recommended I should get an electric toothbrush Sonicare. I have been using it for a little over two years. My new dentist recommended to get an Oral B. So I recently purchased a io series 2. This unit is horrible, it says two minute timer. It does not shut off after two minutes not like my Sonicare. It just gives an extra vibration. vs the vibration it gives off during 30 sec quadrants. The neck of the head is way thicker than the Sonicare. And after ever use I have to pull off the head and clean it out I do not have to do that with my Sonicare. This unit was a waste of money I just hate it.

We're disappointed to hear you don't like our iO Series 2 compared to Sonicare, and we're happy to help you. The timer is to let you know the recommended time for brushing has passed. It doesn't shut off automatically in case you need a little longer brushing. Cleaning your toothbrush is ideal to keep it at the optimal performance.

If you prefer a toothbrush without an active timer, we recommend considering other models within our product range that offer customization options. Our higher-tier iO models, such as the iO4 through iO10, provide the ability to control and adjust the timer settings through the Oral-B app. With these models, you can personalize your brushing experience by modifying the timer duration or turning it off, according to your preferences.

We value your feedback and would appreciate you giving us a call at (800) 566-7252 for assistance with the brush and any questions you may have.

Not what I expected

I received this toothbrush yesterday and was a little disappointed. I believe the advertising is somewhat misleading, details below, and will return it soon. My two big issues are:1 - the toothbrush heads are different that the older versions and, from what I can find out, the old brushes are not interchangeable with the new model. I did not see that documented anywhere and 2 - Also, I think, the advertising implies there is a lighted timer display on the brush someplace. If there is, I cannot find it on the brush.
Response from Oralb.comBy Customer CareSeptember 22, 2025
Thanks for leaving your review, Robert, and we're sorry you feel this way. Oral-B iO2 Starter Kits come with 1 Oral-B iO Gentle Care brush head and 1 Oral-B iO Ultimate Clean brush head. The standard iO2 toothbrush comes with 1 Oral-B iO Gentle Care brush head. All of our Oral-B iO Replacement Brush Heads (Ultimate Clean, Gentle Care, Ultimate White and Targeted Clean) are compatible with all Oral-B iO handles, including the iO2.

There isn't a lighted or visual timer on the iO 2. Instead, it has a vibrating 2-minute timer, breaking the brushing session into 30-second intervals for each quadrant. Feel free to call us at (800) 566-7252 if you'd like any additional assistance.
