When shopping for an air purifier for my son, who has terrible allergies, this model was recommended in Consumer Reports. It has been great! I did not buy the additional “allergen” filter, figuring I would try the standard filter first. From the first night, he was much less congested and able to sleep better. I think it is very quiet, especially on night mode.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Awesome product. Had this 6 months so far and my sinus issues have almost completely subsided. The app, alerts and lights on this are very useful. The sensor picks up crazy things like when you bug spray across the house and turn on the fan and scrub the air in a matter of minutes (or so it says). They are pretty quiet unless you max speed them, but even then theyre not too loud. The washable cover/filter is great, after a while you can see it needs a wash, toss it in the washer and its all good. Would 100% recommend.

Recommended by Consumer Reports and -as usual- CR knows. Quiet, small, nice looking. The very first morning I awoke with noticeably less congestion. Money well spent.

Sensors aren't sensitive so auto mode isn't useful

I love BlueAir in general so I bought 3 of these to try to automatically handle the fluctuating air quality due to Canadian wildfire season over the summer/fall which causes bad air over much of North America.
However, the sensors on all three units are extremely permissive. I have high quality PurpleAir monitors to give real readings but the only time these 511i Max units would say anything other than PM2.5 of 0, was when I blew candle smoke directly into the sensor holes. That turned the fan up for 10 seconds, then back down and it said the air was great again (the real PM2.5 was around 15 in the whole house at this time, because of the wildfires).
Therefore, if I want to filter, I'll have to manually control them through the app, but that makes this product about 3x the cost of other smart filters that you control through apps & it won't be responsive to changes in the air overnight in my children's rooms.
Very disappointed :(

Man this thing is quiet! Enjoy the scheduling function so that it can run in the bedroom on high a few hour in the afternoon when we are not home and then whisper quiet at night. We purchased the smoking/charcoal filter as our bedroom was not so fresh. After the first day the smell disappeared! (from my clothes after a long vacation)
