Once you put a Sony A7R2 with 16-35 and a 55mm lens, there is only a little space left for accessories. Its much smaller than I imagined but the build quality is impeccable and a lot of thought has gone into the small details. Overall a very stylish and comfy bag.
The 3L makes an acceptable cross body for my everyday essentials: asthma inhaler, bulky tube device for the inhaler, pulse/oximeter, gigantic prescription sunglasses, a few blister sleeves of common medicines, and headphones. This all goes in the main compartment, and it’s easy to access everything. I actually added an extra divider from my backpack.
My issue is that it’s not nearly as well-thought out as their other bags. And with a small space, mistakes really show.
Problems:
Needs more color options. I chose solid black, but would have preferred blue or any *color*. A fanny pack is a statement piece. Even just like a color stripe would help.
It’s kinda ugly. The backpack is similarly shaped but looks sleek with the colored handles for accent and the tapered top. The everyday is a tub with a string.
Exterior zip pouch is difficult to access. Hard to get my hand in there, and my hands are small. Yet once you weasel into it, the space is huge! I’d love to actually access this. A U shaped zipper opening would help greatly, and/or two side zippers, with the front folding out to various pockets like the backpack side panels. As is, I don’t use this as it’s too inconvenient.
I’d like an attachment point for the key cord inside the pouch, preferably the front pouch for easy access without opening the whole thing. TBH the lack is a huge oversight. I can use an outer loop, and then what? Let the keys swing free? Leave the zipper partially open so I can tuck them away? Almost anyone planning to go out with this bag will have keys.
I wish this had a tablet pocket (I knew it didn’t when I ordered it.) It holds everything I want but when I take my iPad mini out stuff shifts that blocks me from putting it back in easily. I got it for everyday carry so it’s a little bulkier than I need given I don’t have fragile camera gear. Other than that this bag is my favorite.
Overall I’m very happy. Good value for money and excellent customer service. I bought this for a recent trip to London and it worked exactly as hoped. I used it to carry a Canon 5Ds with a 40mm fitted, 2 polarizers, a 100mm, a 20mm and a Feisol tabletop tripod. It was a tight fit but the compact size made it totally workable for many hours of walking and on public transport. It also worked perfectly as a handbag for my wife on the long-haul flights when my camera equipment was in hand luggage. Quality of the product seems top notch. The only slight issue is that the locking of the shoulder strap could be improved, it tended to slip a bit. However this could also be user error.
I think the product is amazing! I loved it and as always, Peak Design products are top of the line. Just think about the bigger one if you have a big DSLR. I have the D850 with prime lenses and somehow it feels a little bit tight. Go for the bigger one if you have the same or similar gear, otherwise just nail this one.
While its amazingly built and the quality is superb as always. My only gripe is that I have a iPad that sits in the magic keyboard from Apple. It’s a real tight squeeze to get that into the slot at the back of the Sling. Essentially I have a 24-70 F2.8 Nikon lens and a D850 body, plus a couple of batteries and an iPad…just a little too tight and could have done with perhaps a cm more front to back along with a cm extra in height. THEN it would be the sling to end all slings!
