Great bag

This is my first experience with everyday carry bag I never tried first version, I don't use it for cameras or photography gadgets,
But I really loved the concept of compartmentilazation and high quality materials, it just happens to carry and protect all my work essentials in an easy to access and easy to carry manner. What I use it for : my syprface pro 7 in a sleeve and it's charger and USB hub, my coffee thermos, some ducuments, keys, wallets, ID badge, vape devices, assortment of pens, power bank, travel wall plug, USB stick among others,
Price is a bit on the higher side, but I believe it's worthwhile it for my needs

Some many good things, and one bad ruins it all

First, the good. It is the perfect size for my gear (Canon R6, 24-70 F2.8, tall enough for 70-300 EF with RF adapter, 15-35 F2.8, batteries and cards and various cleaning tools). Strap is super comfy. Latch closure is amazing. Second, the middling: if you want to carry a filter case, or any other hard-ish sided accoutrements, there's only room if you have the camera out and on your neck. There's no water bottle pocket (which I knew when I bought it, so I can't count it as a negative). The straps for attachment work as expected, expandability is as expected. The bad: if you expect to put a capture clip on the side and have it be one-handed, you are in for a disappointment. The way the top flap comes over and the sides are recessed there is no way to be able to one handed use the clip. you have to pull it out and then attach the camera. It can work, but it's not the slick operation one would hope. The one ruining feature: The fabric of the gray option (unsure about the black) chewed up several of my shirts. The worst is in the picture below, my favorite cotton-poly blend t-shirt is pilled and almost worn through after 5 hours of use one day. I noticed minor damage on other shirts I wore with this bag as well. The bag material is very abrasive against normal clothing material. For me, this means the bag is useless for summer and only ok for when a coat with a smooth surface is the point of contact.
Overall, because of the abrasive properties of the material that limits its use to cooler temps, I can't give this more than 2 stars on any dimension. If the material were different, this is a 5 star bag for me.
I am not using this bag for photography. I do carry a laptop and books. I am a health care provider and often have to take charts home with me to finish documentation. The bag mostly does what I need. However, one feature I miss from my last bag is an easily and immediately accessible pocket on the outside. I realize there are the zipper pockets but I need quick access to my phone and those pockets are not usable for this. I have an iPhone 13 pro max and I have to force it in. Getting it out is even harder. I also wish the shoulder strap was adjustable like the everyday sling. I watched both videos and thought this bag came with that feature. I almost returned the bag for this reason alone. I’m left handed and being able to adjust for handedness is important to me. Instead, I am required to, yet again, find a way to fit into right handedness.

What a step backwards :-(

I am a proud owner of the V1 Messenger and I love it (like a lot of other PD things), but it starts to look quite used and I was interested in the progress, so I ordered the V2. My very first impression was "ouch, it's small." I just came back from vacation, my V1 still packed, and I tried to put everything into the V2 and failed miserably. Besides that I missed some features like the belly strap or the extra Laptop bag on on the back. Also the bag is not as expandable as V1. And the material ist somewhat stiff. Overall i was very disappointed and send it back . BTW the place of the serial number is a very bad joke.

V1 was much, MUCH better!

I've had the V1 version since 2014 or 2015 and loved it. The zipper on the laptop compartment of that bag broke in 2017 and it was replaced at that time. Recently the friction material on the strap started to break down and leave sticky black smudges on everything. Bag was replaced again, and since the V1 is no longer available they sent me the V2 13L.
I agree with another review on here that this bag is a step back. It works, but it's not as good. The one area of improvement is the strap adjuster works the opposite direction of the old one, and is easier to use now. Here are the negatives: - The laptop compartment is in the main compartment rather than having its own zipper. Fewer zippers to break, but less flexible in use. - The material isn't as nice as the old one. It's stiffer and the texture is more abrasive. - The capacity is smaller. This is an obvious one, but my crappy dell from work barely fits. The old version could carry a 15" MBP and an iPad easily. - There is no longer a zipper on top to access the interior - The tripod passthrough is no longer there. They've added external staps and connection points, but I like the old design. - They removed the external size pockets. They were small, but were good for a phone or headphones. - The front pocket zipper is now tiny. The old bag had a zipper that went down the sides to give a wider opening and easier access. This new one is very restrictive. - The flap DOES NOT WANT TO BE OPEN. Lay the bag on its back, and open the top and it closes on its own. Its too stiff and very annoying. - The material on the back of the strap is no longer smooth and easy to slide over clothing, so you have to support the weight of the bag while spinning it around your body to avoid twisting your clothes.
I really wish they could have just replaced the strap on my old bag. I don't like this new one at all and I'll probably look to another manufacturer for something that better suits my needs.

Disappointed. Worse than V1.

I have had this bag in the 13L version for at least 6 months. It rarely gets used. I had the V1 in both sizes. I also have a 10L and 6L which I use from time to time. The problems I have with this bag is primarily that the exterior (particularly the large flap) is far, far too stiff and this model lacks the top zipper for easier access. This makes it very awkward to access while wearing it. Try it. Shift the bag from behind you to the front or side to access your camera with a lens on it or another lens to change. It should be obvious when changing lenses you would like to have the bag open so the lenses can set in the bag during a change. There is almost no way to get the large, intrusive flap out of the way. Try it with one hand holding you camera. Try folding the flap backward over the top, between the strap ends and against your body to hold it out of the way. Very awkward! Even trying to remove or store your camera/lens is awkward and definitely a 2-hand job which is not always possible. Even if I take the bag off to set it on the ground (beach, mud, whatever) the top will not stay open. Unless I fold it back and lay the bag on its back, on the ground, with the interior of the flap against the ground to keep it from folding back over and getting in the way. Disappointed. It is large enough for my Sony mirrorless w/ 24-70 or 70-200 attached and the other lens tucked inside. But accessing the bag I the worst experience I have every had.

How to take a great bag and make it horrible
on April 27, 2021

I had the v2 of this bag and now got the v3 because a friend saw the older one I had and took it from me. So I got the new version and it's so stiff and falls over all the time. The zipper that accessed the main compartment from the top that I used all the time is gone. I find it so frustrating that I am basically not using it and wish I could get my old bag back.
