This is 'The' Travel Backpack
on April 21, 2019
Posted by: Justin
I'm going to start our with saying The Peak Design Travel Backpack is the most comfortable large backpack I've ever owned. I can easily take a week vacation with this one and not worry about space. Checking luggage is in the past with this backpack. It's versatile. Lot's of options. It gives you the power to come up with creative ways to store things. I'm not going to use this every day but if I'm going anywhere be it for a weekend or a week or so I know I'm going to be happy with this backpack.

One-bag travel delight
on April 24, 2019

So this is a large backpack. Being able to compress it down to taper the top helps give the appearance of a smaller bag. Nevertheless, my wife takes photos of me and sends it to her mother proclaiming, "look at the turtle I married". And I don't care. Laugh it up - because this bag is a dream to use :) The straps are comfortable and fold away neatly.. Access, access, access...use this in an organized manner with packing cubes and other considered cases and you'll get to exactly what you need when you need it. The concealed external carry straps have saved me numerous times. The deep secure side pockets provide quick access to a water bottle and can also conceal tickets or boarding passes for quick access in places where you feel safe doing so.
The quick access pocket at the top could be slightly larger to help fit boarding passes etc.. but it holds all my wearables and phone when going through security so serves its purpose. The bag has just the right balance of rigidity and softness. You can squeeze it into an overhead when necessary but it doesn't flop all over the place when being packed. Oh and packing is a pure delight with the large opening on both the top, bottom, and sides (remember - access, access, access).
Love it.

Great bag with one serious con
on April 30, 2019

I am using the bag for couple of months now. Took it on several flight trips. Never had any problems to take it as carry-on.
In general I really like it:
- ton of space, versatile
- great inside organization
- well-thought-out pockets
- feel very solid
- great zippers; not YKK but I still have a lot of confidence for them
- additional straps to attach extra gear
- truly waterproof; I have been testing it in really heavy rain
HOWEVER the bag has one huge disadvantage:
- shoulder straps are just not comfortable. When the bag is fully packed like 45 liters; carrying just hurts!
I know what was the idea here; possibility to hide the straps and have the look of a duffel but I would really trade this option for comfortable
straps (good example of perfect shoulder straps is Boundary Supply and theirs Errant backpack; very different bag but has the greatest shoulder straps on the market).
If this will be fixed in the next iteration I think this might be the perfect travel backpack, right now is ALMOST perfect.

Great travel pack!

Bought this to replace my old travel pack, and spent 2 weeks in Morocco with it. Just an awesome bag with no real cons from my perspective. Zippers, compartments, etc. are all thoughfully laid out. Water bottle holders on the side expand to hold a large Nalgene. Quickly accessible pouches, grab handles everywhere, stow-away straps, multiple expansion/config options are all great. Loved this bag, it was just a joy to use.

Exceeds Expectations
on May 3, 2019

So often you see a product online that looks amazing and high quality, and then you get your hands on it and experience instant disappointment; akin to the fast food ad effect. This travel backpack is no such case. This thing feels incredibly solid and well designed/constructed. The features are awesome. The look is surprisingly sleek. The hidden straps are great. This bag makes me want to travel more just to get to use it.

Really good everyday carry option
on May 3, 2019

I bought this bag when it was on Kickstarter. I currently use it as my everyday carry bag. I'm not a big fan of the side access style but that's a personal preference of mine and not a con on the bag. So far I only have two minor cons with the bag. Both relate to the straps. First is that the straps do seem to need to be adjusted regularly. Apparently putting it on and taking it off a lot causes some travel but it's not a big deal. I just readjust when I realize they have gotten more loose than I like. The second is the plastic strap keepers. Recently while putting on the backpack, one of mine broke. I guess it was somehow bound and I didn't realize it. I would like for these to have been made of metal like the other parts on the bag and they may have prevented my situation. However, none of these issues are that bad. I'd probably give the bag 4.5 stars overall but that wasn't an option, so I rounded up to 5 since my cons are so minor. Overall I really like this bag and don't regret my purchase for a minute. Also, Peak Design support when you do have an issue is awesome.

The Peak Travel Backpack after 30,000 miles
on May 3, 2019
Posted by: Anonymous
I've had this bag since it came out on Kickstarter last November. I have used it on over 10 trips so far both international and domestic. This bag is more expensive than any of the alternatives but without a doubt the best materials, best constructed bag I have ever owned.
The bag - cloth and zippers - are the best quality of any bag I have used. The bag is heavier than the others I have owned for the same size but I will accept that weight as a consequence of the materials and design.
You have multiple access to almost any part of the bag - front, sides, and back. There are four internal, zippered pockets on the inside of the front for organizing small stuff and and easy access small zippered pocket on the outside top of the bag. You can unzip the divider between the front pockets and the large rear storage but the gem for me is the fully u-shaped zippered semi-rigid back panel that makes loading and unloading extremely easy.
No bag is perfect. The snaps to reduce the internal volume are NOT designed for old thumbs and so will never be used by me. I found the chest strap a little fiddly (more work to use than expected) than the typical plastic snaps straps most bags have but can be repositioned on the shoulder straps to fit a range of people. I am warming to it.
I would definitely say that this bag is not for everyone. There are many bags that are good and good enough. But if you want the top of the line then you should check out the Peak Travel Backpack.

Dawn Patrol
on May 8, 2019

Aloha all! Chase Caffey from “dawnpatrol.com” here - I just wanted to say that I LOVE the Travel Backpack. It has made my airplane flights a breeze! The extra zippers to increase space really come in handy on the “unexpected” extra items that usually get brought home. This packpack is a keeper and I am excited to see how long it last.
