Slow to boot

This unit is very slow to boot. My old computer from 6 years ago is faster to boot up. Sometimes it doesn’t boot up and just sits there with the windows flag or Wolf security logo. It might show the flag for an hour or so before I give up. I then have to intervene, turn off power and reboot. In the restart or reboot process it is sometimes hard to tell if it is even doing anything.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Small but mighty

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I have used this computer at home for a few weeks for all my family’s needs and it has held up to every aspect I would expect in a regular computer but it’s a mini. I was skeptical but this small but mighty machine has been such a cool experience. From minimal gaming, to homework, to emails and browsing this PC holds up. It is easy to connect to my monitor and comes with a wired keyboard and wired mouse. The keyboard is slim and has little flaps to elevate the backend of the board for ergonomically support. The mouse is also slim and glides with ease. Everything hooked up easily and setup was quick. It connected to my internet just fine and works just like a regular sized PC. Response time is quick and does not lag. Storage is decent, haven’t ran out of room or needed a backup yet…not even close. My wife uses it for her online small business and is able to wirelessly connect her printers. My kids use it for homework and reading books online and never had any issues. It is a great computer for the whole family and a space saver in the home office.
Pros: Lightweight

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The HP Elite Mini 800 G9 Desktop PC (Wolf Pro Security Edition 6B510UA#ABA) is a powerful workhorse in an amazingly small footprint. I measured it as a square of just under 7 inches and a height of 1.25 inches. The front offers three ports and a headphone jack for convenient use and charging of devices, while the rear has an amazing array of connections including 2 display ports, 1 HDMI, an antenna port, ethernet, and 3 USB. The graphics card is an Intel UHD 770, which is a high performer and capable to meet almost any workload, and the processor is an Intel boosted i7 with 12 cores, 20 threads, and up to 4.7 GHz. The SSD hard drive is 256 GB, which is not huge, however with a setup like this you will certainly have external storage devices so an oversized system volume can actually compromise performance. There are two memory slots, but only one is occupied (with a 16 GB chip) so expansion, if needed, is a breeze. For the price, this is an amazing list of features assembled within an extremely space-efficient design. Swapping components is as simple as possible, which is refreshing because it is typically case that components within mini pc are stacked upon each other making it a significant surgery to access anything - upgrading the hard drive or RAM would very realistically require less than 3 minutes. After all this tech-speak, it is a little embarrassing to admit that one of my most favorite features is the keyboard this computer shipped with. I usually bypass factory keyboards and plug in my mechanical one, but this is a seriously good and tactile keyboard that I will be keeping in use. All in all, this is a superb machine that is extremely competitive today - and stands to remain that way for many years to come. This one will NOT let you down.
Pros: Affordable, Lightweight

Huge power, quiet operation, and tiny footprint!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] It’s been a half decade or so since I owned an HP computer…not because I wasn’t happy with them as a company, but mostly because I worked in an environment where all the computers had to be of like brand. Even so, all three of my monitors are HP and I absolutely love them, two of which have the built in webcams, and one of which serves as a hub. My point being, I’ve been drawn toward what HP is doing, how they are innovative and creating better ways to get work done efficiently, and pleasantly. That said, when I had the chance to pick up the HP Elite Mini 800 G9 Desktop PC - Wolf Pro Security Edition, I was very, very pleased…and a bit skeptical. As a creative (I work in photography and video editing), I wondered how such a tiny desktop processor would hold up to my previous, large cinderblock sized computers. The conclusion: admirably…and with the size and convenience, this HP offers things a traditional desktop just cannot dream of doing.
The HP mini computer came in not such a mini box…I didn’t know it would come with a mouse and keyboard. Everything was well packaged and in perfect condition. And while I’m happy the mouse and keyboard came along for initial set up, they are both pretty basic. Fortunately I have wireless versions of those, so after giving their wired siblings a spin, testing their responsiveness (both good) and construction (both on the light side), I ultimately chose to use my original peripherals. Still, those two things were a bonus…I came for the main course.
I’ve included a picture with a standard soda can for reference, but the size is what you would think of if you ever used an external dvd disk drive. Solidly built, with rubber nubs on bottom to prevent slipping, there isn’t much else to this thing besides the power button and inputs, and of those there are plenty. If anything, there seems to be too many display inputs, but if you plan on multiple monitors or mirrored presentations, this is a nice inclusion. There are both types of USB ports as well, a screw to open the processor (I assume), the power brick input (included as well), a headphone jack, and an Ethernet input…that’s all, but that’s plenty.
Booting it up is lightening fast, and I upgraded Windows to 11 immediately. There isn’t much to say in terms of functionality, Windows works as it should, and the HP handles it with speed, reliability, and does so almost silently. I did a bit of research about how HP can keep such a tightly housed, powerful computer cool without a noisy fan, and all I can say is there are super smart designers out there that seemingly do the impossible. I’m used to my desktop’s heavy breathing during high processing work, but the HP mini computer handles it like a ninja, silent and invisible.
Another thing I absolutely love about this computer is that I can take it with me. At my studio I have a similar set up as at my home office, so having double of my peripherals (a much cheaper solution that having two computers and two sets of softwares) I can move the HP Mini from place to place as I would a laptop.
Too, because The HP mini has such a tiny footprint, you can store it anywhere without it looking like a eyesore. Truthfully, my old desktops took up so much space on my workspace I often put them on the floor, where they suck in dust and howl like mad trying to mange the heat under my desk. Not so with the HP. When I first told my son to have a look at it, he couldn’t find it, assuming he was looking for something much larger, even as it was right in front of him, nestled beneath the edge of my monitor. My desktop looks much cleaner and open, leaving more space with which to work and play.
The Wolf Pro Security that is built in to the HP saves me another potential headache. I don’t like having to manage and decide on how I’ll handle my internet security, so having Wolf integrated into the system means I have less to worry about straight out of the box, and ever after. The software works seamlessly with Windows, monitoring and assessing risk, and keeping potential attacks at bay. I haven’t had to deal with any malware so far, and I feel safe with Wolf’s cyber security.
Because my HP monitors are holding up perfectly after years of use, I anticipate the HP mini computer will become obsolete long before it breaks down physically…but such is the course of most technology. I’m only glad the HP uses quality components so I’m not hindered by shoddy equipment, slowing my workflow and wasting my precious time.
Obviously I am a very happy HP user, and this Mini computer is pretty amazing, with big power and possibility, packed in a tiny package. I’ll certainly recommend, and this is only the first of many HP mini computers I plan on owning going forward.

Mighty Mini with Great Value

I upgraded to this from an HP gaming machine that I purchased about 8 years ago. This time around I did not need a gaming machine but I did want something that will last 8-10 years and allow me to upgrade and extend the machine as needs arise (disk and memory). I have never been a fan of laptops for all sorts of reasons so I did not want to go that route. The integrated graphics on this 12 gen Intel hardware is so good that for my purposes I will never need a dedicated graphics card. Its my understanding that it will drive up to 4 monitors. I have an ultra wide myself running at a fairly high resolution and it runs that just fine. Everything about the machine is lightning fast. It also runs silently. I cannot hear the fan unless I get very very close to it. The case that it is enclosed in is sturdy metal of some sort. My unit came with the option to use either Windows 10 or 11. Having the option was nice but I went with Win 11 and it runs that very well. The HP Wolf Security software works great on Win11 also. I have not noticed any slow down at all from running the security software. It just does it thing in the background and stays out of the way, as it should be. I love the option to connect internet either with a physical cable or with Wifi. I was also surprised to see that there is a now a feature that lets you spin up a guest hotspot from your computer. Not sure if that is a Windows thing or what but was a pleasant surprise. The compact size frees up workspace. I was able to set it up on my printer rack out of the way but I have seem some people mount these under their desk or even behind their monitor. Lots of great USB connection options. I combined this with a couple small USB hubs for my various devices so I am only using 2 ports for like 8 devices leaving other ports open for more ad-hoc needs. I plan on using this computer for home office work, and also advanced photo editing software which can be RAM intensive but my configuration starts with 32gb and its my understanding this can be upgraded to 128 if needed so should have plenty of room to grow over the years. One additional surprise I had was this this machine has very low power consumption. I was originally trying to use with a smart power strip that cuts power to dependent devices when the PC goes off but this little machine uses so little power that unless you are actively using it the power strip kept thinking that it was turned off. (ha ha) So I just had to use a normal power strip but I thought that was funny in a good way. So yeah love this little machine and I got a great deal on it. Keep it up HP!!

Great for my small business!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Don't be deceived by the size of this PC. It keeps my home office incredibly tidy and is the most powerful computer I've ever owned. My desk is not crowded by it and it easily fits underneath my monitor. It's quite small, which is excellent for my tiny office. It serves my small business needs. The connection was simple and quick. The startup process is quite rapid. It launches any installed program almost immediately. I haven't seen any lagging or slowdown in any of my work in the few weeks I've used it. I’m incredibly impressed with the size and operation of this computer. It’s a great addition to my small business. I highly recommend this computer.

Fast But Kind of Pricey

The compact size of the HP desktop mini's is awesome. They've had these for maybe roughly 10 years now, with a lot of the early ones having overheating issues and being noticeably slower than their SFF (small form factor) and mini tower relatives. Both of those issues have been gone since roughly the G4 era, which is when AMD Ryzen models become available.
These can be mounted behind certain HP monitors like the HP Elite models with an adapter quit, so pretty neat there. You've probably seen this at hospitals, clinics, and some other places. It does add some cost so not necessarily always worth it as space might not be a big issue either.
Giving this model 4 stars instead of five as Intel has completely shaken my confidence on their entire Core 13th and 14th gen line, although you all reading this can remain fairly assured that this won't be a problem on this model as it uses a 35W TDP model whereas Intel says the issues are on 65W and higher models (think big tower desktop machines, professional workstations [OUCH!], gaming machines, etc.). HP also dropped the AMD versions of this line a little over the year ago for some reason and is just now starting to bring them back.

Compact, Powerful, Fast, Quiet Workstation
on October 11, 2024

When I started a new remote job a few months ago, I wanted a small, powerful, and dependable workstation. I needed something lightweight that I could easily travel with. This workstation met all of my company's device requirements as well as my own personal specifications. I am so glad I chose this. I use it for long 11 to 12 hour shifts with two 24 inch monitors and a webcam, and it has never overheated. It barely makes any sound when it operates. It has all the ports I need to connect my accessories including a wired keyboard and mouse.
