Having used this bag for a few trips now, I can say that I do think its a great duffel, but theres a few small things that a "v2" would greatly benefit from: many of which are mentioned elsewhere but more info is always good.
The Good: Using this bag with Peak design's packing cubes works fantastically well. Whether packing clothes in it or some hardware, they really do make packing this thing a breeze, and even without them the size of the bag and the generous side pockets make it really flexible. The shoulder strap padding is far more comfortable than other bags I've owned, and the big handles on either end also add a lot of easy maneuvering on planes/overheads.
The Not so good: The side handles are, for me, a total miss and borderline terrible. The magnetic hold on these simply do not do anything to hold them together to the point of thinking they had forgotten to put magnets in mine. I understand from other design choices that hook and loop isn't Peak designs favorite approach, but the magnets just do not work to combine these into a single handle. No matter what angle They're gripped at, when lifting the bag they WANT to come apart. They are also just not comfortable at all as backpack straps, something that is an advertised secondary option. Its nice that this was considered, but the design of the strap itself just isn't comfortable for this. The lack of adjustment makes getting the straps on your shoulders annoying, and they're too thin to distribute weight well and just feel like they're digging in.
That being said, the attachment mechanism for the bag, with multiple options to attach to, is a great design choice, and I cant help but feel would be even better with a good handle. Its a very addressable issue, and either a "backpack" set of straps or just a better set of handles would go a long way to improving them (and easy to retrofit due to the design!)
The only "missing" feature on this bag, given its size and use case, is a way to easily pass a roller bag handle through and keep the duffel on top while on the move. you can kind of do this with the grab handles, but the one closest to the roller bag handle is too loose to really hold the bag in place like this, and the farther handle need to be yanked to get it over the roller bag handle. Its secure at that point, but also doesnt sit flat on the roller bag like that.
Overall: if you're looking for a smaller duffel, its still a pretty good bag, but its held back from being a GREAT bag because of how bad the handles are to use. They've tried to design them to be clever, which is a huge part of what makes peak design's gear nice, but I can't help but think this desire to be clever has negatively impacted the usability.

Absolutely incredible bag

I've been living out of this bag for pretty much the entirety of this year, going from New York, Costa Rica, Peru, S√£o Paulo, Mexico, Boston, South Carolina, Utah and more... this thing has been absolutely life changing. The materials are robust yet flexible, zippers are high quality, the pockets allow for tons of storage options, and the handle bars and grips allow for a lot of handling options while carrying this bag. This is now my go-to bag for any trip longer than 2 days, and I'm looking forward to the continued use of it over the next several years - really hoping this thing can be with me for life, and I have faith that it can.
Do yourself a favor and get this bag.

Perfect Size, Poor Handle Design (Black)

I’ve had this bag for a little over a month and have used it on several trips. The 35L size is perfect for trip to the gym or a long weekend. Only complaint is the design of the carry handles. The nylon canvas material is used for the grip which creates an uncomfortable rigid feeling. The edge where the handle material is sewn feels “sharp” at times adding the the discomfort. However, this only applies to the Black color since on the Sage bag a soft brown leather is used for the handles. Wish to see a similar design with black leather. Also, as noted in other reviews the magnets in the handles are very week and virtually useless.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great duffle, rubbish handles on the 35L.

Picked up 35L duffle and have been really impressed with how well it works: lightweight, looks great and has excellent organisation making it a lot better for living out of.
As everyone says though, the magnetic handles are really bad: uncomfortable and don’t stay together.
I will say, I liked the 35L enough that I bought the 65L which doesn’t come with magnetic handles but a wrap around hand grip that makes the handles comfortable and keeps them together.
Peak - please can you make this standard on the 35L and make the handles with the wrap available to folk who want to upgrade their 35L! It’s so much better and I’m sure a lot of folk would want it.

Great duffle, small flaws
on January 30, 2020

Pros: amazing quality material, both inside and outside. I used to a trip to South Africa, packing well one could easily fit one week of clothes. The zippers and buckles also great. The shoulder strap are really confortable. The great price for the quality.
Cons: the main zipper pull ripped on the first week of the travel, the material is very flimsy. The hand straps are very short to be used as a backpack strap. With all expertise of Peak Design in camera straps, I didnt understand why the hand straps are not size adjustable like the slide. The paddle could be adjusted with snap dots. With this, the backpack mode is not pratical.

Wonderful bag with big flaw

I bought this bag because the PD travel backpack was too heavy and unwieldy for travel, especially at airports. I love everything about it which make its flaws particularly pronounced, especially as it's otherwise so well-designed. THE HANDLES: I just don't get it, it's a well- documented complaint, the magnets just don't work. It's too weak. Why have they not replace the magnets with something stronger? It's so frustrating. All over bag magnets are weak too, not just the handles but the latter is the most interacted feature. The whole uncomfortable awkward design is not worth it if the magnets don't work. Fix this and the bag would be sublime.

its cool

The appearance is very cool. Satisfaction also has a high feel of a material. But almost no magnet of the handle functions weakly. Only that place is regrettable. And when it was a little long and deep, it was better.

Great Bag, Handle is meh.

This is my third PD bag (20L daily carry and Travel Backpack are my other two). I like the function of this bag and durability a lot. It's a great second bag for travel.
There is only one thing that bugs me about this bag, and unfortunately it's an important thing: the handle. The handle has a pretty hard seem/edge on it, and it digs into your hand when you have the bag packed out heavy. If you are going to put a ton of gear into this and hand carry it long distances, it will be an issue.
As long as you are using the shoulder sling or keeping the packing in it minimal, it won't be an issue.
