Unexpected value

I honestly didn’t think bag was worth the price, but honestly I’m upset I didn’t buy it earlier. Honestly the best piece of luggage I’ve ever bought. Streamlined my camera gear in such away that I’m always prepared for every situation.

EDBP V2

I’m sure readers here have watched or read other reviews prior to purchase. As such, I’d like to focus on some shortfalls that I’ve noticed as trending items during the multitude of reviews I’ve consumed, and what my take is. As well, it should be disclosed that I am not using this bag for anything photography-related. This is, exclusively, an everyday carry for work.
**Shipping Issues:**
13 days to make it from southern CA to northern VA is an issue I would want to mitigate in 2022 if I were involved in the corporate structure of a shipping company, in this instance, FedEx. My order was only the EDBP (no backorder delays), placed on 24 Feb, and picked up by FedEx on 25 Feb. Yikes, guys. Yiiiiiikes!
**Anticipation v Reality:**
The bag arrived, and looked/functioned as advertised. I was a bit concerned, thinking that the “Black” color looked a little lighter in videos/photos, but it was as I had hoped once in-hand. Inspection of the bag, inside and out, offered no manufacturing defects, and all hardware was in great working condition.
One problem I am encountering is on my preferred side-open position, the top of the zipper is slightly dented in. In comparison to the other side (which in its form, bulges slightly outward, to allow a smooth pull), this had to have happened during shipping, and I will give it time and attention in anticipation of it snapping back to its intended form.
**Common Concerns:**
\- Shoulder Strap elastic/nylon rings for excess on pull straps. This bag is extremely tucked away, and clean looking… aside from the pull straps, which just dangle, unlike literally every other of the many straps featured within this bag. Hopefully this cheap and easy fix will make its way into V3. In the interim, it’s a very easy fix for the individual. Minor gripe.
\- Elastic leash/anchor link placement. I’ve seen complaints relating to this being placed on one of the side handles, which then hangs into the side pocket on that side, and how inconvenient that is. Uh… just move it? Seriously, this isn’t rocket surgery. For my personal needs though it is, very slightly, in the way. However, in conjunction with my side of preference, its in just the right place when needed, and quiet/secure when I don’t.
*\*I have tried this feature in several different locations. For my preference, I still prefer it to be located as shipped.\**
\- Interior Layout. There have been several reviews of the system not working as a customer hoped it would, in regards to initial layout, as received. It’s a “system,” and modular. I would agree with the aforementioned in the first few days if one has made zero tweaks. I had rearranged my bag several times during the first morning of use, and made several minor adjustments in the days to follow. More than likely, I will continue this process until my OCD needs are sufficiently met, and so far… well, its getting there.
I think this will take several weeks of modification. Allowances for those days when irregular, but semi-common items need transportation, finding the right placement to mitigate movement of items in the bag, etc. If there is a bag that can conform to the task, I do think it will be this one.
\- Tight laptop compartment. Agreed. In full. (*Any pd team-members reading this… the laptop tightness is easily the most wide-spread feature complaint.*) I have a 15” PC which, though it *will* fit, and zip closed, pushes on the zipper which, in time, will assuredly impact the functionality of the zipper. I was hoping that I could stick with the 20L, and my laptop would fit for an everyday carry, but I’ll have to make other arrangements. If you are on the fence about this yourself, I would suggest considering the larger 30L model. For now, the top remains unzipped when carrying that particular laptop.
Unless you have Apple’s “Air” products, I find it difficult imagining a simultaneous laptop and iPad carry. This was one of my main reasons for buying the bag, but I do not feel it was advertised falsely, and the fault lies with me.
\- Shoulder strap discomfort. Full disclosure… I am *very* accustomed to carrying a 72-hr military backpack, weighing more than I would anticipate my EDBP will ***ever*** hold. The shoulder straps will likely never cause me discomfort. In addition, I am a "wrench it down" type of guy, having the bag ride high on my shoulders, as opposed to the more common and casual "school bag sag" I might opt for on something like a JanSport bag. My experience is likely quite atypical, and therefore I think, in a way, invalid to comment.
The straps themselves are well built, the hardware extremely easy to use, and the clean look of the magnetic back area all add to the appeal of an often overlooked feature. One place for improvement, though, would be to increase the opening of the stitched overlap for thumb-pulls at the end of the pull straps. Again, minor gripe, just something to consider for V3.
**Construction:**
This bag is very well put together! I spend some time with each new bag to thoroughly inspect where future points of failure could be. The stitching on the EDBP was clearly not an after-thought. The durability therein rivals, if not exceeds, that of military-grade and tactical equipment, and I can imagine the shear and tensile tear tests far exceed industry standards. If something comes apart on this bag in the future, it will no doubt have seen some hell!
**Bulk:**
So, personally, this was something I definite took into consideration. Watching the videos from both pd, and reviews on youtube, I was a little concerned that the bag would like bulky/bulgy on my 6'-0", 210-lb frame. This is turn, did cause me to opt for the smaller 20L model. The bag is sleek, form fitting, and smaller than I had imagined on my back. Just like with the PC laptop issue, I think a consideration of the larger 30L is justified.
Overall, I am extremely pleased with my purchase, and highly likely to make future purchases from pd. One of the things I liked most about their site, as a side note, was the in depth videos on each item. I quite literally found myself watching videos for items I will never have the need to purchase, and truly appreciate the extra leg-work and value it provides to the customer!
Sorry for the long-winded nature of this review. I hope it does someone some good when vetting a future purchase!

Great Customer Support & Use for Tech

I bought the 30L version of this backpack solely for the purpose of storing technology and lugging around my school items. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it was able to cope with carrying my laptop, iPad, full sized notebook, water bottle, and still have space for my bike lock. However, upon opening up the bag I had a ripped divider, Peak Design was very swift in responding and sending me a replacement. I am very happy with both the product (in the rain while I bike back from campus) to the customer support.

Perfect in every way. I like it so much, I’m going to buy one for my work laptop.
Everything is just so well thought out, it’s a pleasure to use. Plus it’s very stylish too. Very useful and surprisingly feature rich for a “minimalist” design.

I got this guy a month ago, (Ash, 20L. Its a little darker then I was hoping) and so far its been amazing. Looks pretty much like new, Everything looks and feels like a deliberate choice with plenty of thought put into it, however some pointers could be implanted in a V3 (which, I would 100% buy if it had these)
First and most important issue to me is the laptop/ tablet sleeve. It fits a 16" M1 MacBook Pro, thicc body and all, and actually does it quite well. Its a little difficult to put in if the bag is full, but I'll let it slide because a) the laptop came after the bag, and b) technically speaking, the bag is supposed to fit a 15" MacBook Pro.
Less impressive is the tablet compartment. Its separates the laptop from the tablet, which is awesome, and can even fit a magic keyboard folio on a 12.9" iPad Pro, but while it fits, the grippy, silicon case makes it quite difficult to put in and take out. It becomes a two step process where I have to first remove my laptop, and then grab the iPad. Sure, If it wasn't in a case, it would move much more easily, but then the screen is exposed and risks getting scratched. a stiff, crush proof divider would make this section much better imo, even if it sacrificed some space or made the bag a little bigger.
Next issue is MagLatch. I mentioned the bag looks pretty much like new, and it is. It still looks really clean, there's no signs of visible wear on anything, except the MagLatch system. Because of the metal on metal contact, the hardware scratches really, really easily, and that sucks, because everything else looks so gosh darn good. A small plastic spacer would probably solve this issue, and could be incorporated with the top locking portion.
Finally there's the straps. They ooze quality, and feel like a premium seatbelt. They don't fray, and feel really good in the hand, but while the rest of the bag looks so clean, the straps have nowhere to go but flap around. If they could be tucked away somewhere it would be much, much better. Magnetic Shoulder straps are a blessing though, makes it very easy to put on and they never get in the way.
