Very attractive, but I not my favorite

To begin with, I typically don't complain too much about things. However, this oven is so expensive and I haven't found it to be my favorite. Granted, I have only used the microwave and the air fryer features. I've owned this oven for 6 months in our new home. I had similar issues as the previous review that there are so many steps to cook/microwave something. Perhaps I'm just used to a much more simple microwave. I've also had problems three times with the display locking, usually when going into Settings, and needed to power down at the circuit breaker.
Another complaint is the alert sound when the microwave is complete is extremely loud, even at the lowest setting. I found it to be an annoying tune. I wished there was an option for a simple beep when the food was complete, and truly a softer sound option. I haven't been successful customizing times for favorite beverages or foods. Keeping my fingers crossed that there is a settings update when features are improved.

This appliance has been a huge disappointment. The first one had to be replaced and now the second one is broken.

We’re sorry to hear your first unit had to be replaced, and you’re now having an issue with the second one not working. We want to help. We recommend disconnecting the microwave/convection oven from power for a couple of minutes before reconnecting; this resets it. Troubleshooting tips for your model are available on page 21 of the manual; that’s linked here: https://products-salsify.geappliances.com/image/upload/s--2hVa5ui4--/fpzrdhp6q72qdarj0c17.pdf

If you’re not able to solve this issue and think service is needed, our Bodewell team can be reached at 833-426-3393. They are open Monday – Friday, 8AM – 8PM ET, and an appointment can also be scheduled online at this link: https://www.cafeappliances.com/support/schedule-service

We will be reaching out over email as well, to discuss your situation further.

Many Features but Many Flaws
on December 1, 2024

from Pittsford, NY
Overall, this would be an excellent microwave with many additional features, were it not for some key fundamental flaws. Specifically, from most-irritating to least-irritating:
1) Sometimes the display stops responding to touches. It's not locked, and the oven itself continues to work. The display even updates, but you can't cancel or go back or do *anything* without flipping the circuit breaker to reset the whole thing. This happened while making Thanksgiving dinner and was a major bummer. It has happened twice in the last 6 months.
2) The UI, when it works, requires a lot more interaction than necessary. Cooking a sweet potato requires going through 6 or 7 different menus, none of which have defaults -- you have to tap every option. Even saying you want to warm something up results in a million questions -- what do you want to warm? do you want me to determine when it's done warming automatically? Are you ready to start?
3) Even once you get through all the menus including inputting the weight of your food, I've found that the oven isn't very good at accurately cooking the item you specified. It can cook a sweet potato in 5 minutes? That's amazing right up until you put a fork in the sweet potato and realize you need to run through those menus 3 more times to do it over again.
4) The various heating modes are really cool, and I like that they work together, but switching the glass microwave tray for the metal tray when using non-microwave modes is a drag. The trays don't even "click" in very well so you end up with a misaligned tray and you have to stop cooking to realign it.
While I like the appearance of this product line, and we have it throughout our kitchen, I'm annoyed that any product could leave you in a bricked state where you can't even reset it without flipping a circuit breaker.

We'd like to help out with the controls not responding. We recommend trying a full electronic reset, which can be done by shutting it off at the breaker for 2-3 minutes then powering it back on. If you are still experiencing issues, we suggest scheduling service. You can do so by calling 1-800-432-2737 or by visiting this link: https://www.geappliances.com/ge/service-and-support/service.htm

We're also going to forward your comments about the heating modes over to our product team to review. This will help us look for improvements and make our models even better.

POOR EXCUSE FOR AN AIR FRYER.
on December 15, 2024
Posted by: Dr CJB
If you're considering this Cafe microwave for the air fryer feature, DON'T!!! It takes three-times as long as the standalone models. For example: 24 minutes to airfry two hotdogs. Nice microwave. But dont be fooled, air fryer it is not!!!

We'd like to assist you with your built-in microwave oven. This unit does not offer an air fry feature. We recommend referring to the owner's manual for information on other features this model does offer. Here is the link:

Poor User Interface Designs
on July 22, 2025

We really wanted to love the microwave more… Some things that would vastly improve ease of use would be a direct enter number pad (having to press four buttons and scroll to high microwave times is just annoying). Would love to have a built-in unit with a door that opens horizontally vs vertically. Also not ideal that you cannot turn off the turntable when using as an oven. Have been more annoyed than excited to navigate the combo unit features - feels like the utility fails to excel in either feature. Considering replacing with a basic microwave or switch to another brand built in combo unit.
All that aside, the unit does cook as expected. It’s just the journey getting there is overly complex and frustrating.

Huge disappointment
on November 18, 2025
Posted by: Marycj
The user interface is awful. I had it's predecessors which were wonderful. I suppose for people who do not want to actually specify the cook times and other variables it's ok but I love to cook and didn't want a dumbed down version that is difficult to use and the touch screen is also nonresponsive. I had specified the older model and got this without notice from a contractor. I never would have purchased it willingly. As a note: this is my 3rd all GE Cafe appliance kitchen and this particular product is a huge dissapointment. Looking for something to replace it with since I only seem to be able to simply heat things with the darn +30 second button. A simple inexpensive microwave can do that!

Response from cafeappliances.comBy VikkiCafe_AppliancesNovember 19, 2025
The add 30 second pad is a quick one touch feature that reheats a food item for 30 seconds. It can also be used to extend the time on a current microwave time cook function by 30 seconds with each press. Take a look at our 30" built-in Advantium model - CSB913P4VW2 as a potential replacement - https://www.cafeappliances.com/appliance/CAFE-30-Custom-Speed-Cook-Oven-with-120V-Advantium-Technology-CSB913P4VW2
