Challenging set up

I just spent 3 hours trying to get this watch set up. Online instructions have not been helpful. Not happy with watch faces - unable to figure out how to change or modify data fields. Cannot sync with Garmin bike radar.

When the watch face dims, the time is unreadable.

When the watch face dims, it is 100% unreadable. Sadly, this hasn't been fixed, likely because it will effect the advertised battery life. Whatever the case, there is no one who has been able to read my watch, myself included, without having to bring it right up to your eyes, like someone suffering from blindness. My old Fenix 4, which this one replaced, is easily readable. Garmin, you have 24 days left to fix this or it's getting returned.

It does everything and works well. I upgraded from Fenix 5, and 8 has so many more features.

I bought my first Garmin watch, a Forerunner 205, about 20 years ago. I lost my way and replaced it with an iPhone to track my fitness. I made it back to Garmin with a Fenix 5, then upgraded to a 7X, and now this.
The AMOLED Display is bright and easy to read, but it wish it was always on. This is the only complaint I could come up with. It lights up with a touch, push of a button, or usually a gesture. It would just be nice to see the time with a glance.
The GPS is great, altimeter works great, heart rate from the wrist is extremely accurate for me, and the activity tracking and data logging in Garmin Connect is awesome.

Garmin really did a great job with the Fenix 8 AMOLED. I have owned a Fenix 3, Fenix 5, and Fenix 7x pro. Each one was an upgrade from the previous version owned, but the fenix 8 really seems to have it all. I opted to go with the AMOLED display over the SOLAR simply because of the display. The battery life of the AMOLED is still the same for me as when i used the solar display (27-29 days) But the bright colorful display and smooth operation of the touch screen is hard to beat. If you are looking fo a smartwatch that will meet all of your needs then this is the watch for you. It truly is worth the price!!
