I own 4 of these bags of different versions and designs for my wife and I. We use them mostly for camera gear when traveling. Customization makes it great when you bring different camera and lens combinations so they suit us well. There are many other lighter less expensive options for people with few gear for always shooting the same kit. A few things can be improved: the side pocket configuration of the V1 bags was way better. Also the top strap does not allow to completely open the side pockets which is not preferred. I do like the better straps of the V2 version and the extra magnets. Still love these bags.

I liked the original version better

I had the original version of this product and loved it more than any pack I've ever owned. I got many compliments as I traveled. I bought the 30L version because the 20L was so great, but be aware it's too big to fit under most airplane seats. The zipper on the origianl broke and could not be repaired so they replaced it with version 2. This is also a great pack but I prefer the original colors/materials to the new one. I also prefer the design of the side pockets on the original. I really am disppointed that half of the side pockt is just a open pocket that doesn't zip shut. It's too easy for things in there to fall out. It's also just one big pocket. On the original there were several small pocket that were perfect for organizing my stuff. The side pockets are the biggest disappointment.

Wanted to love this bag so much, but returned it

This is obviously an expensive backpack so I had high hopes for it. When I got the bag, I was immediately pleased with the construction. It was in perfect condition, no loose/extra stitching. I got used to the opening/closing mechanism very quickly. The adjusting laptop pocket is a very nice touch. I have a 13 inch laptop that I can easily grab and store.
However I kept finding downsides to the bag. The number 1 thing I didn't like about this bag, is that instead of the bag being able to adjust to my needs, I kept finding myself having to adjust to the bag. Yes the bag is highly customizable, however the options are typically just not enough or are self-limiting. I really like the idea of the origami folding dividers however the the upper pocket on the inside blocks the ability to place the divider near to top of the bag. The dividers fold, but since all three of them are the same size and shape, you can only get pockets of certain sizes, specifically smaller compartments. If you have an object thats just too big or small, you'll have to figure out another way to store it.
The side pockets meant for a camera stand or water bottle are very small. They added a stretchy fabric so the pocket can expand, however it's not enough. The pocket opening is way too small even with this adjustability. It would have been better if one pocket has a wider opening to allow bigger items, but instead both pockets are the same size, and small. Two different sizes would allow for a greater variety of storage, or bigger openings for both that can be tightened if needed.
Large items that would fit fine in a normal backpack simply take up too much space in this bag. Sometimes I need to take an extra pair of shoes with me to work. If I put them in the bag, along with my water bottle that wont fit in the side pocket, I pretty much have no space left. I can't even fit my shoes and bottle in the bag without having to take out all of the dividers.
I love the key ring holder. It is a very unique and "peak" design. However I wish they included one more. It's a small piece of plastic with some thread on it. For the price of this bag, a second one only seems right.
Another gripe I have is that putting any item in the smaller pockets pretty much means they'll poke out into the large compartment. The inner side pockets are a nice touch, but again they decided to mirror the pockets on both sides, instead of providing a variety to fit different items.
I really wanted to love this bag. But for my lifestyle, and they things I need to carry, it just doesn't work. A few times I had to opt to either leaving something behind, carrying it along with the bag, or changing the layout of the bag to kind of sort of make things fit.
Many will love this bag, I recommend you get it to see if you like it or if it'll work for your lifestyle. For me, it has too many disadvantages. I have shipped the bag and am awaiting my refund.

7 YEARS WITH MY Leica x Peak Design V1 Capsule

It’s been 7 years with my Leica x Peak Design V1 Capsule backpack. I purchased this bag from the Leica Store Los Angeles way back in 2017 and I’ve taken it with me on every single trip to nearly every single continent on this planet without a single thread out of place. The Leica emblem “red dot” on the back corner of the bag and on the left shoulder strap still distinguishes the bag from many others and its tan interior looks amazing after 7 years of gear shifting, shoving, and squeezing for those long flights and excursions. Magnetic side pockets still stay strong without any tears and are a quick storage for sunglasses, headphones, straps, water bottles and chewing gum. The compartmentalized internal side pockets are heaven-sent and store my keys, passport, journal, pens, and cables. Currently, I have the center compartments split into 3 FlexFold sections: my rangefinder sits on top for easy access with the Maglatch, my medium format or video cam sits in the middle and distributes the weight well, and the bottom compartments are for film, chargers, WB sheet, and snacks. The internal sleeve fits my 16” MacBook or iPad easily, and I love the extra shallow storage area above the sleeve and the hidden area inside the Maglatch to store extra cash and SD cards. The 20L is discreet, light, and fits under plane seats, and easy to hug or kept secure under your arms when you’re in risky areas. I’ve used the external straps to latch on my trusted Filson Mackinaw Cruiser for any unforeseen weather, or I've even strapped on a Peak Design Sling for additional storage that passes as a carryon. I also have hidden inside the front panel is an extra rain cover for the bag, extra sets of Peak Design Leash, Cuff, and Anchor Links. Lastly, the bag has small anchor loops that I've used with combo locks and carabiners to secure the bag from theft and water damage.
The durability, modern design, comfortable fit, and inconspicuous form is perfect for everything situation I've been in, whether it's for work or play. The patina on the Maglatch is probably the only thing that dates the bag, but I love the battle scars and stories that my bag can tell! Shout out to Peak Design for creating an exceptional product that has been a joy to own. As I enter my 8th year with this bag, I still don't see another bag in the market that can rival its versatility and durability, and so I highly recommend it to everyone who is in search of a bag that is nearly perfect for the needs of a working photographer.

Missed the trick

I'm a fan of Peak Design, so it amazes me how a design flaw so big got through... There's no strap to pull the bag closer to the shoulders. That usual strap that you pull from above your shoulders and makes a huge difference in any backpack is missing, which means this backpack weight pushed on my lower back and kept pulling my shirt up constantly. Had to return! I still use the original messenger and have other PD stuff, but this one is a sad story for me.

Good but could be better

Pros: The material is great, the design is excellent. Cons: Heavy bag just by its own weight. it will be too heavy for EDC. Water resistent material seems to fade away after 1 year.

Best backpack ever

I love my everyday backpack. The numerous pockets, pouches, and compartments keep my life organized better than any other bag I've owned. After 3 years of daily use, the computer compartment zipper broke and I got really sad. My friend that gifted me the bag for my birthday mentioned that PD fixes or replaces their products FOR LIFE, recycling old units to help in close-loop manufacturing. As a Sustainability MBA, this is one of the sexiest things a company can do! I am forever a PD customer after they replaced my broken bag and promised to responsibly recycle the old one. P.s. Everyone I show my bag to gets very jealous and wants to know where I got it from!
Used the bag on a recent trip to Alberta, hiking the mountains, it made it so easy to take out my camera quick. Also rainproof, didn't have to worry about anything getting wet. Highly recommend this bag to any travelers !
