Endless reviews on YouTube, some useful, some not, but on the whole the momentum is all-for the Peak Design 45L Travel Backpack. With some use the PD 45L is clearly well made, functional, and meeting all goals for 1-bag travel.

Best backpack for short travel (3 year review)

I had this for (almost) 3 years I use this backpack as a daily. You can pull it off. It's a little big for most probably, but totally doable. With new option (30L) by Peak Design you should consider your most frequent use case.
For short travel it's the best! I ditched any kind of carry on luggage. Also it's pretty flexible since it can expand and contract depending on the use.
Only negative feedback (to be picky) is that the straps don't stay in the same place due to it's slippery surface, so you have to adjust it often.
Love it, will keep using it for a long time.

Solid travel/large EDC bag - Some tweaks needed
on August 15, 2022

I've been using the 45L for about a month now as a combination of EDC and one bag travel. First of all, this is a big bag. It easily carries my laptop, tablet and accessories for daily use collapsing down to 35L with the snaps. I had the tech pitch and find it redundant because the organizer is so good in it.
Unsnap the compression and the main compartment easily holds a couple changes of clothes for travel up to around 5 days. Uncompressed I even use it to pick up a few things at the grocery store. Water bottle sleeves easily fit my big 48oz Nalgene.
Material: I haven't used it in anything more than light rain but it holds up pretty decent. There's an optional rain fly to buy for heavy downpours. Seems like overall it can take a beating. Zippers seem rather secure although I have noticed the side zippers creep down a little bit if I'm moving a lot.
Comfort: I was shocked how well it carries on my back even fully loaded. I had groceries, full edc with laptop and a jacket in there while on my motorcycle and it handled it like a champ. The hip belt pops out and stows easily and is great at weight distribution if it's really full.
Style: Looks sleek, modern, but not ostentatious. I'm looking forward to seeing it a bit more broken in over time. I have a hunch it will age rather well. It is large for square footage on your back but it never really looks or feels bulky unless it is very full.
Critiques: Most of my critiques come from the perspective that I got the bag for motorcycle commuting, EDC when compressed, and one bag travel. I'm not a fan of the sternum strap. It comes on and off a little too easy so when I'm on the bike I feel like it's going to fall off. Walking, hiking or traveling it's great, but peak has really pushed this for bike and motorcycle too so I feel like it should be a bit more secure. Second is the webbing. There is a stash pocket for it at the bottom of the bag held loosely shut by two magnets. Some of the webbing has started occasionally poking out of that pocket and I was worried that it was going to catch in the chain on my bike so I've moved it to a side zipper pocket. As well with the webbing, the attach points are very easy to come on and off to the point I'm not sure I would trust it on a motorcycle with something lashed. Lastly, I feel like the compression could be done better. The snaps are really tough to snap together and still they pop apart occasionally. Some compression straps on the side to slim the profile might have been a more welcome option but I understand they sacrificed that for easier side access and honestly, I get it.
All in all, this is an amazing bag. I'm looking forward to years of use out of it and besides those small critques, it's been flawless. 9.5/10

I bought this pack to not have to check any baggage on trips, and it is awesome. The spacious design and multiple-entries make this bag fantastic and easy for excursions.

When an old, cheap-o travel backpack broke on a trip, I immediately ordered the Peak Design version because, like everything the company makes, I knew it would be high quality and smartly designed. The hideaway shoulder straps and hip belt are genius. The smaller pockets also are nice, though I have not yet used them because I roll down the divider (again, genius) to maximize interior storage for my PD Dopp kit and PD packing cubes (both great). The backpack is great for carry-on luggage so I don’t check any bags, and lets me keep my hands free to help with rolling luggage used by family members. It’s my favorite of my 4 PD bags, and that’s saying something.

Just replaced a Minaal backpack with the Peak 45. The Minaal helped me appreciate organized carry on packing. The Peak bag takes it to the next level. Packed 7 days of multiple outfits a day (in August in Hill Country hear) including 2 pairs of shoes, toiletries, accessories, and everything necessary for 7 days of sweat free, refreshed outfits morning, noon, and night.

Exactly What I've Been Looking For

Way back when I got a NF Overhaul which was okay for what I needed but I consistently wanted something a little more user/purpose friendly. After a lot of research I settled on Peak Design & I am super glad I did! The sheer versatility of the bag as well as the way that the ecosystem works together (the packing cubes are perfect!) pushes the PD line above and beyond anything else I have found.
