Great bag for urban/light hiking use

I've been looking at this pack for probably a couple of years now, and finally pulled the trigger a few months ago. I wanted a backpack that allowed for better camera gear accessibility, and I appreciate the many thoughtful features of this one. I recently took it on a vacation trip that included some hiking and lots of time in airports.
Things I really like - Visually, the design is very clean. The camera accessibility is great. You have the option of access from either side, and you can set up the partitions to suit your gear. Personally I'd like a better separation between the top section and the bottom section, as small items can fall down past the flexible partition into the camera section. I ended up using one of the Peak Design gear pouches to keep smaller items in place.
I like the little zipper "locks". Whether they'd completely deter a thief, I doubt it, but they'd definitely slow them down a bit.
With regards to the fit - I'm on the taller side (72"/182 cm), and I found the waist strap to fit higher than I'd like. It's not so much a hip belt as a waist belt - for me at least. I appreciate the fact that it can be stowed in the back of the pack, but some sacrifices are made in terms of comfort and load carrying. Carrying an SLR, a telephoto lens, wide angle lens, a smaller point and shoot camera, Nalgene bottle, a jacket, snacks, and some other gear -- I found that the narrow shoulder straps were less comfortable than my regular backpack, and I would think twice about taking it on an multi-hour hikes over rough terrain. The non-stretchy side pockets are also a bit limited if you've got some larger lenses/gear in the pack.
In summary... if you're a gear nerd, you'll appreciate the features and thought that's gone into this pack. As an urban/light day trip hiking pack, this would be great. For longer trips with more gear, you'd probably want something bigger and with more padding. Just rec
Those are my initial impressions from a 10-day trip, and I have yet to use it for cycling and other things that I do.

Absolutely essential and an incredible warranty

The 30L backpack is perfect for hauling camera gear and accessories. I used it on a European trip last year and loved that when it was fully packed, it still fit under the seat in front of me on an airplane (Not on regional jets, though).
The big reason to buy this: the warranty. Its magnetic strap holder holds the straps tight to the pack, and the flaps don't flop around. Something happened to my original bag, and a magnet moved out of position. When querying about a fix, Peak Design sent me a new backpack.
There are some things I would like to see improved. There should be a pen holder in the top of the compartment so the user can put a pen there or in the computer slot. The side panels won't stay open when unzipped, meaning you have to use your arm to keep it open while looking for an object. That makes finding and retrieving an item a two-handed action.
These enhancements don't take away from the bag's strengths and features. I'd buy it again...and, in fact, may buy the new roller bag.
The case takes a lot of beating from being shoved under seats or in bins, pushed around the back of the SUV, and being on the ground when shooting on location. Even after over a year of such rough treatment, the exterior case showed no sign of wear or damage. Even dirt, and coffee and salsa stains were easily cleaned off.
I'm 5'8, and the 30L is comfortable and fits well on my body and narrow shoulders.

Engineered for Creators, Built to Last.

This backpack is truly one of a kind — versatile, thoughtfully engineered, and highly usable. Over the years, I’ve tried many types of camera backpacks, and finally, I landed on Peak Design. I started with the 15L Everyday Zip and later upgraded to the 20L Charcoal Everyday Backpack. I must say, it’s a wonderful bag — tough, sleek, and designed with a photographer’s real needs in mind. Easily one of the best camera bags in the market.
And I can’t go without mentioning Peak Design’s incredible warranty service — it’s the cherry on top!
Pros:
Durable and well-designed
User-friendly layout
Attention to small, thoughtful details
Cons:
The partitions could offer more grip to secure gear better
A full-zip opening would make gear management easier, especially at the start
Missing a zipper in the top panel
Wish:
Would love to see designer editions with patterns or artwork — something unique and stylish!

Awesome bag with very small issues

I have the 20l v2 version.
So overall, this bag is really good, quality is awesome, most things are really well designed, but there are a few small things that could be improved. These are:
* the storage system for the sternum strap just doesnt work very well. I lost mine basically immediately at my first flight. I bought a replacement and store it now in one of the internal pockets.
* I use the pocket on top for sunglasses. It fells like a sunglasses pocket, but its very tight. I would love if this was just oh so slightly bigger.
* if carrying heavy things for a long time, the straps arent maybe the most comfortable in the world. I mean, they are fine, just not exceptional.
All of these are kind of nit-picky, but for me, its just what keeps it from being perfect.

I’ve had this backpack for almost a year now and used it pretty much every day. It fits everything I need for work (tools, laptop, reference books, etc) or travel. It’s very thoughtfully designed and the quality is quite good. I’ve never been worried about any part of it breaking.
