I bought this cube for myself at Christmas and it's great. I can now fit my camera with 400mm lens and hood connected and in one piece. No more swapping out lenses in the field when I go birding.
Came with enough dividers to customize my set up. I can fit a canon R5, canon 24-105 2.8f lens, canon 100 - 500mm 3.2-5.6, batteries, chargers, accessories, Drone, 4 batteries, control, and charger.
The functionality of this bag is unmatched. I purchased it for use with an X100VI and it fits incredibly well in the XS camera cube with quite a bit of extra space. Will be taking this to Italy in a couple months for more rigorous testing but am confident that it will hold up well as a daily carry bag.
I purchased the V2 version of the camera cubes, but they’ve been a letdown. First and foremost, the height of the cubes is significantly lower compared to the V1 cubes I own. As a result, various items, such as my 24-70mm lens and a small flash, protrude from the top. Secondly, the pocket attachments in the V2 cubes are inferior to those in the V1 version. The lack of the organization mesh in the V2 version prevents items like batteries and SD cards from being neatly held. Thirdly, the side access on the V2 cubes appears smaller, making it more challenging to retrieve your camera from the bag compared to the V1 cubes. In conclusion, these cubes represent a downgrade from the V1 version. None of the other “upgrades” matter to me since these cubes are designed to be used inside bags. V2 cubes are a complete letdown. If possible, I recommend purchasing V1 cubes while supplies last.
I've had the smedium bag for over a year now. I remain impressed with how it has held up (still looks like new!), and how it makes packing to go out for photos quick and easy. Different photo equipment for the day is easy to drop in with the Velcro dividers that move around and have it be well protected.
I bought this initially just as a way to throw gear safely into a larger Gregory backpack for hiking. Besides that, I've used the smedium as an impromptu photo bag on its own with straps that easily attach to the connector points. It's easy to grab by the side with the thoughtful strap around the edge, and its held up pretty well for light rainy weather. It's also a better storage solution for gear when at home than other bags have been in the past - the way it opens up makes access much easier and quicker to use and to put lenses and cameras away in a neat and orderly fashion.
Very happy with how it performed for the reasons I actually bought it - and discovered quite a few more reasons to like it along the way too. Good quality, and I think it ought to serve for many years to come. The cost is definitely more - but its also well worth it to me to get high quality gear that will hold up for a long time.
I bought this for storage for a new camera and several lenses, it’s a perfect size for the basic amount of equipment I have now with space to comfortably fill in the compartments with a few more things I now have my eye on.
I have several Peak Design bags for different occasions, with the compatibility of the V2 cubes my gear is ready to go in whichever bag I need at the moment, just plug and play!
