way too much heat being generated ( i had to buy a cooling pad) and way too much fan noise
sometimes system just lags and slows down

We do understand your concern about thermal issues. It is normal for laptop, with the same hardware configuration and regardless of the manufacturer, to generate more heat than normal while under heavy load especially while running resource-intensive applications, WINDOWS Update and antivirus scan. When system resource utilization is high, this will generate more heat than normal and tends to trigger the fan to spin at full throttle. Please ensure the air ventilations are free from obstructions in order to have an efficient air flow for better heat dissipation. While running power-hungry applications, please ensure no other resource-hungry applications, services and processes are running in the background since this will definitely spike the temperature. The heat or temperature does decreases or normalizes once system resource utilization goes down. Additionally, ensure Windows, drivers and BIOS are up to date. Updates for this laptop are posted at: https://www.asus.com/laptops/for-home/zenbook/asus-zenbook-14-oled-ux3405/helpdesk_bios?model2Name=UX3405MA . Keeping the laptop updated will ensure optimum system stability and performance, including power management efficiency that will prevent high system resource utilization that tends to cause excessive heat generation.

I have purchased several ASUS laptops over the last 12 years (Zenbooks primarily and two Vivobooks) and like most of them, this one is exceptional for my purposes. It is relatively lightweight so useful when travelling. All website pages I have used load quickly whether online or using programs locally so it is very responsive. The keyboard clicks but it is not a distraction for me. I type in the traditional way and find the keyboard responsive and comfortable. The screen images are very vibrant and clear. Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase and when this one gives up the ghost, I likely will look at ASUS laptops again.
