Endurance of this hard drive is appalling. It is as bad as cheap QLC NVMe SSD, which makes it useless as backup and storage solutions. 300TB/yr is just too little to meet regular usage of this so called high grade hardware. No wonder it was so cheap.

Hey I got 2 x 20TB drives cheap, and they arrived quickly. I have filled both drives up already and already need 2 more. So far these drives have held up to hours of use as they are in my home theater Zappitti players and being accessed for up to 8 hours at a time constantly.

Based on your concern, if the drive is not showing up on the computer then it could be due to insufficient power supply to the drive for operation. To isolate the cause of the drive failure, it is recommended to connect the drive as secondary storage via SATA port to the computer and check the drive for any damage or defect.
We recommend connecting the drive as secondary storage via SATA port to the computer, to test the health of the drive using Western Digital Dashboard for Windows.

If the test is unfortunately inconclusive and you just purchased the drive then you should be able to return it to the place of purchase. However, if you are past their return policy, you can create an RMA through WD and replace the drive under warranty if necessary.

I purchased six of these drives to fill out a QNAP NAS extender. Four drives were sent in the first batch with two DOA. Got replacements which were not double packed when they were sent out of which one was failed. Trying to get those replaced. The other two drives I received had one faulty one so I’m working to get those replaced. Support was slow in addressing. I had to escalate a few times to get any action. The drives that do work I haven’t had any problems. They are seem to be more silent than IronWolf Pros. Despite that I fear for my data. It was the price that attracted me to these drives. Foolish me.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I purchased the new drives to have more storage for Plex and it made me format my other to drives to setup RAID and now my Plex is no longer able to access or record on the NAS.
