This FTD-8 System was much more user friendly than my first Night Owl unit which quit working after 8 years of continuous use. This Night Owl was very easy to set up. I do wish that the installation instructions had mentioned that I needed to install the "Night Owl Protect CMS" program on my laptop in order to view the cameras on my PC. The CMS program is different than the Smartphone App, which is simply "Night Owl Protect". The only oddity that I'm experiencing is, every few minutes, a random camera will quickly flash a colorful scrambled screen, or a camera will go blank for just a second. It's not really troublesome, and I can live with that. I'm hoping that it might be caused by something like my electric sump-pump cycling on and off every few minutes because we're having a very wet and rainy spring season.
I'm happy that I bought this FTD-8 system. A huge plus was that the original Night Owl camera wires that I installed 8 years ago were compatable with this new system and its 4K cameras, and I did not need to run new wires.

I upgraded to the 2 tb dvr, it seems a little better than the 1tb. Still streams to your mobile device in kbs. If that could become mbs i would actually like this unit. Otherwise i only like it when I'm at the dvr viewing footage. It live streams ok until you select an individual camera then that kbs screws it all up.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I bought the 4 pack with dvr and no issues they lasted about 4 years before the cameras stopped working. Here looking for replacement now for it.

I had to replace a night owl camera that went bad so I purchased another one which I had to buy two but after getting it hooked up realized it is NOT in color like the other ones were. Aside from that I like night owl and their products just wish all 4 of my cameras wee in color and not just 3 of them are.
