Good Case. HIDEOUS HOLSTER.

The case is what you expect from Otterbox when it comes to phone protection. It's rugged, well built, and it protects the phone very well.
And you're going to need every ounce of protection it has if you use the holster.
Whoever designed this holster needs to be fired, because it's blatantly obvious that whoever designed this holster never uses one daily or awkwardly holds their phone with their left hand. It's by far the worst holster that's ever came out of Otterbox. It forces you to rotate the phone 180 degrees every time you take it out or put it in the holster since it's backwards design forces you to point the buttons face down vs face up like every other holster ever made by Otterbox since before the pixel 5.
Also the tolerances are so tight and thin that your phone never fits in the holster and you are constantly fiddling with the placement in order to get it to snap in just right, So expect to be walking and all of a sudden the phone pops out. I've dropped my pixel 8 pro out of the holster more in 6 months than all of my previous smartphones over the past 15 years combined, And I've used Otterbox and their holsters since the original Galaxy Nexus in 2011 so I know how Otterboxes used to be.
Get the guy that designed the case and Holster for the Moto X to make the next version of your holster. That was the best holster you guys ever made since it held the phone secure, was ambidextrous, and didn't have the stupid tab that breaks every year. Otherwise I'll be forced to look for another brand that makes a more sane holster when the tab breaks off this one.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Terrible design. It will ruin your phone.

This case has destroyed the metal frame of my new pixel 8 pro. I new it was a bad idea to have hard plastic rubbing against a metal frame. It's pitted and scratched all the way around.

Case creaks when you squeeze the sides

I usually get commuter cases for all my phones but sadly Otterbox hasn't made one yet for the Pixel 8 Pro so I had to settle for the Defender since no one else makes a decent case for it. I wasn't expecting how heavy and bulky it would make the phone which I don't like. Also for how expensive the case is I expected it to feel high quality. When you squeeze the sides of the phone it makes a creaking sound like cheap plastic does when it flexes.
So far I haven't dropped the phone on anything more than a 3 ft drop onto carpet so I can't comment on how well it protects the phone but I imagine it will do just fine.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The plastic is a lot more flimsy compared to the pixel 4 XL. the belt clip is not as strong as well. I am able to remove my phone from the clip without effort. I have been wearing the clip for the past 3 days and it has fallen out of the clip every day so far. I believe the case will still protect the phone but not to the same degree as my previous.
I would recommend this to a friend!

The case came in a box marked as the proper one for my phone but it does not fit the phone. There are no instructions on the website for getting the phone into the case, unlike all of the other models.
