I already had some experience with how cool a big Ninjago set could be thanks to Cole's Titan Dragon Mech, but this set was something else. I really like the huge size and use of special pieces, and the design is also incredible. I hope Lego can do more sets like this and the Titan Mechs in the future!

More dragon, more fun

I'm a dragon collector, and for years I have bought LEGO for the dragons. And boy, is this dragon gorgeous! It's got very satisfying shaping, with natural curves and contours. While it isn't the first red dragon (not by a long shot) there's no denying the color scheme works well. The use of translucent orange helps differentiate it from some previous red dragons.
The saddle is an option, not built into the dragon's torso. This is something that has been an ongoing complaint of mine for years, but recently it's been less and less the case. And as someone who likes their dragons untamed, I find this to be a major win. It gives people like me the option to have a wild dragon without extensive customization and still includes the saddle for those who want it. I like how the moulded jaw is integrated into a larger head to not make the dragon look like it has an undersized head for its body, especially as it is such a large dragon.
This dragon took me around 4 hours to build, and I felt it was a satisfying experience. It's less articulated than some other dragons have been, and the tail is mostly limited to side to side motion. I would have liked the neck and tail to be able to move more, as it feels a little stiff sometimes (ironic for a dragon symbolizing motion). The legs also don't have much of a range of motion, and are somewhat splayed out like an iguana's by some small pieces near the joints - removing those parts let me move the legs more, but the rear legs still got caught in places due to the shaping in the inner leg. Not too much of an issue, and definitely not hard to edit if you want to. The feet being on ball joints makes them feel a little unstable at times, considering the massive weight they support, and I feel like the friction parts I haven't seen in a while would have been perfect here. The instability is mitigated a bit by the rubber in the feet, so again not a big issue.
The included bonus dragons were a nice touch. I can't say much about the minifigures though since I really don't pay much attention to them.

I write books, not titles...

First, I'm a certified idiot, third, this is my new "pet", seventh, this intermediate build was awsome, second, I only built the dragon, wolf head (replaced the red with silver and modified it a little further for a necklace/pendant) and the gong and turned that into a pendant with flame accents and used 4 gold teeth into the chains; fits comfortably too). And I added a flame constructed piece to the mouth and it looks like it belongs there (1 2X2 translucent orange inverted parabolic dish and one technic flame of your choice to add on the end of a 1X1 translucent orange cone, the whole construction can be taken in and out with ease (and 6 other mystery pieces, 9 pieces total. P.S. and since the title is, that... I'll save you the response and effort... "Cool story bruh..." alright, I'm goodnight.

Beautiful dragon that could have been more
on September 18, 2024

This Dragon is a beautiful design and colorway, beefy, just plain LARGE! The Piece count for the value overall is fantastic, and it's a great build experience. All of that said, I would like to have seen just a few other things from such a high part count. I would have been happier with a slightly smaller dragon if the Head and claws were brick built rather that the molded head pieces we see in many of the recent dragon releases. Claws, too, could have more parts that make them unique. Individual scales would also have been a step above. It all feels like a missed opportunity with a part count that high. With only six minifigs, it felt lacking -- One more hero fig might have been nice. As other reviews have stated, for a set called the Source Dragon of "Motion," it doesn't have the range of motion one would expect. Also, due to its size and weight, its static poses are limited just to keep it stable. Overall, I appreciate the challenge of balancing size, stability, and motion, and think the design team did a beautiful job! The addition of the throne makes it an impressive, eye-catching display, and I like that the throne is easily removable. It's a gorgeous Dragon on its own. Highly recommend!

bought this for my granddaughter who was born in the year of the dragon. She loves anything that is a dragon. She really enjoys putting lego sets together
