Ease of set-up: 5 stars, the app makes it easy, haven't tried the monitor and keyboard configuration
Storage: 5 stars, no subscription, no cloud. 1TB seems to be plenty of room; two months in and I still have over 900GB of space.
Quality: 1080p, looks good on the phone. Haven't verified on a dedicated monitor.
Motion detection: 2 stars, needs work. Cameras/system unable to truly differentiate between a person or cars. Cameras will record regardless what it detects.
Recording: 3 stars - cameras/ System takes too long to start recording. A delivery person detected will already be walking away from the front door area before the recording kicks in; this is like a 4-6 second delay.
Battery: .5 stars - definitely not as advertised. This is the biggest disappointment. The batteries supplied (2 for each camera) lasted about 1 month, on full charge, before needing to be recharged; even with the spotlight feature turned off. Purchased additional batteries to be able to install 4 batteries in each camera, and the time before recharge seems to increased to two months, less time on my front door camera due to increased activity.
Overall option: An okay camera system of people looking for value and getting used to setting up their first system. Wireless is a good option users in rental properties where drilling through walls for wires or where power access is limited or not allowed. Person/car detection needs work; record delay needs to be improved.
I've had 2 of these systems for over 2 years. The image recognition algorithms send notifications on: tree branch shadows, squirrels, cats, dogs, and other animals as Human" notifications. "Activity" zone settings are useless , as I continue to get notifications from images anywhere in the camera FOV. NO tweaking to sensitivity or other settings help eliminate erroneous image notifications. Engineering needs to make lots of improvements to the image recognition algorithms. The 140 ultra wide angle view is far superior to the standard 80, especially if you are monitoring the sidewalk and street outside your building. The latter is useful indoors, but I would choose all ultra wides for anything outdoors.
I bought this system after my last one was stolen, and was pleasantly surprised at how far security camera systems have improved. The picture on these 1080 cameras is excellent, set up was fairly easy. While the basic wifi camera has a decent angle, I much prefer the ultra wide angle camera for covering a much larger area. While this system is refurbished, I didn't notice a lack of quality, everything looked brand new. There was one problem, the HDMI outlet failed after 2 days of operation, and I was instructed to return the DVR. While it took almost 10 days to confirm my warrantee, it took even longer for Nightowl to email the return postage label. Once they recieved the damaged unit, they turned around and sent a replacement, which arrived quickly, and in good shape. I spent another 6 hours trying to remount the system, online with Night Owl agents directing. FYI, you MUST remove all your cameras and place them next to the DVR to sync them up, the DVR will not be able to find your cameras otherwise. Also, you MUST delete the previous DVR icon from the remote app before mounting the new one. This information was not known by every agent, just Thomas (so ask for him, and save yourself the headaches). Also, If you find the spotlights annoying, you can easily turn them off. My only complaint is that I wish the cameras could tilt and pan easily, but the mounting bracket is very limited, so the cameras can't be pointed in any direction easily. Otherwise I'm very satisfied with this system, it's so much better than what it replaced, and I plan to add another refurbished wide angle camera soon.
The recording quality is not accurate in the sensitive mode it records with nothing moving and on both medium and sensitive mode it does not always pick an object when moving 30 to 50 feet from the cameras, like a passing car or person.
I would like to return this system. I am disappointed that it will not let me make the adjustments that it said I can. Even thought it took my security password. This is the 4th or 3rdrd system I have had and would like to go back to a hard wired system. I have always like my night owl system in the past, but this one I am disappointed in. I have just received it a week ago and would like to return it for a hard wired one.
multiple problems right out of the box, apparently not tested after whatever refurbishing was done. Did not recognize hard drive, not picking up or recording audio, red speckles across the pictures, not able to connect via app. Previous system I had purchased new had no issues until a lightning strike
