Worked great with my 3dB antenna on my Land Cruiser and a 6dB antenna on a friend's Jeep. In trees and hills range was ~1.5 miles

Purchased this radio for the features. My dash is pretty full and wasn't sure about mounting and still keeping a clean install. With this model I was able to put the small box either in the console or place it in the back seat, either way the microphone is all that is up front with me. Very simple to install, basically just plug and play. The channels are not overloaded with everyone trying to talk, reception is crisp and voices are easily understood. I did opt for the higher gain antenna and the magnetic mount, both are working as advertised. Magnetic mount easily withstands freeway speeds and small low hanging branches, I can switch this from one vehicle to the other quickly and easily. Would highly recommend this setup.

I’ve used this a few times on weather radio, in convoys, and on repeaters in my area. With the 6db antenna, the range is fantastic. With the short antenna, I can hear my convoy without issues. I suggest enabling the privacy settings such as DCS or CTCSS when in a busy area. Best of all, my mobile handhelds from Midland interface with the MXT275 if I need a spotter. If Midland makes a higher powered remote mount option, I’d upgrade. My only recommendation is to buy an extension cord for the mic. A quality RJ45 cable will do.

Bought this for my side by side on trail rides, paired it the the high gain antenna. Install was easy and the sound quality/transmission power was great. Was able to talk to neighbor over a mile away though thick woods.

I purchased this radio for my Jeep and it is the perfect size to hide under the dash. It has great sound quality and is way better than the CB. Open road signal is an amazing 10-15 miles. Through the woods we were able to get 2-3 miles depending on terrain.

Beware: only limited access to GMRS repeaters

Overall, the radio is quite nice and I love the fact that all the controls are in the mic. The unit is easily mounted out of sight and overall works well. The stock antenna is quite useless, though: Mine was matched at 467MHz with a very poor SWR at 462MHz and the antenna cable is RG 174, which had a measured loss of ~7dB (4 dB by design) for the length that came with the antenna. 7dB means that only ~3 Watts of the 15 Watts will reach the antenna, and even less will be radiated due to the poor match. Reception is equally limited by the antenna. Fortunately, that's an easy fix as you can add your own antenna.
Unfortunately, there is a rather limiting design constraint: The radio does not support split tones, which severely limits it's use for GMRS repeaters. Many GMRS repeaters use two different privacy tones for the Tx and Rx channels. This is an additional measure to avoid self-activation for high-powered repeaters with good receiver sensitivity. This radio (and I believe other Midland radios too) cannot be used with such repeaters. If you are planning to use GMRS repeaters, make sure you are aware of this limitation. Many other common brands do not have this limitation.

Just plug it into your lighter receptacle, stick the magnetic antenna on your roof and you’re all set!! Crystal clear sound as well. You can’t go wrong with the MXT275!
