So close to the perfect radio

The Midland MicroMobile radios are a great lineup and still probably the best choice for most overland/4x4/car-to-car communications. There is room for improvement, and it seems it could be fixed by a firmware update. I'll update more below.
The hardware on this unit is excellent. the radio handpiece feels substantial in the hand and the PTT button feels better than the MXT105 this is replacing. Its great to have a speaker you can hold closer to your ear for better understanding. The buttons are backlit, which makes making adjustments in the dark much easier than the MXT105. The only mark against the hardware that I'd give is that the "amber" backlight color is more red (minor nitpick). While I'm calling out hardware improvements, I'll note in this review that the hood mount that is said to fit a 5th gen 4Runner does NOT fit a 2018 (5th Gen, post face-lift) 4Runner. There was major interference with the cowling. I hope they can update this product, too, as it's nice quality.
Now for firmware updates: The menu system is unintuitive to use. I have to reference the manual in order to make most changes. I believe the sequence is to hit the "menu" button, and that cycles through the menu items, then you press the "Lock" button to indicate that you have reached the menu item you want to change (um, what?), make your adjustment with the arrow buttons, then press lock again to confirm the change (seriously?). If you forget to press the lock button, the change is reverted. Also, the menu system tries to spell out letters of what menu item is ready for you to attempted the magic button incantation to attempt to adjust. Using a 7-segment display to try to spell out initials for setting titles that I rarely adjust is again, very unintuitive. I wish they would follow the Motorola Talkabout menu system (and perhaps the menus on their handhelds are similar) where you press the Menu button to cycle through menu items, but the menu item being manipulated is indicated by the flashing the icon on the display. That method is SO MUCH more intuitive, faster, and with less button presses.
Second, this unit should really turn on when 12V power is applied, like the MXT105.
Third, the backlight intensity should be adjustable.

I installed this unit about 3 weeks ago. Easily mounted it under the passenger seat and mounted the mike/control unit on the dash. Very impressed with the quality and ease of use. Surprisingly well made for money. Highly recommend!! Haven’t seen anything similar really for any amount of money.

I did a lot of research on GMRS radios that met my requirements for the type of off-roading we do. Midland kept coming up in the top 2. I purchased four sets of the MXT275 for myself, and three other buddies. The radio exceeded my expectations on ease of use, and performance. I would totally recommend this to anyone looking for an affordable radio without the need to carry the handhelds. With that said, we did receive some Midland handhelds as part of the purchase, and they work great too. The FRS frequencies can communicate with the GMRS, so win/win.
We did the install over the weekend, and couldn't be happier with the footprint of the unit. Everything has been tucked away neatly inside the center console of our Wranglers (2020 JLUs Rubicon). We wired the power to the battery, fabricated an antenna mount for the front of the Wrangler which sits on an existing bolt, and ran the antenna (MXT26) cable through the firewall and into the center console. Totally neat and clean. If you're thinking about this radio, just do it. You will be happy with your purchase.

Unit is easy to install, small size of it can be mounted or tuck away almost anywhere in the vehicle and just expose the mic piece as everything is control through it. I truly love that feature, since mic mount has no spring removing 2 screw/nut's run 2 self tapping screws and mount it anywhere was good thing as adhesive that on the mount is totally useless. First I use that adhesive to mount it and left it over night without the mic attached to it to make sure it stick well. Then the next day I place the mic and next day both were on the floor in my truck. My truck is always parked in the garage so the issue is not the heat, I cleaned the area before I place the mount so that's not the issue. Adhesive they use was cheap, not industrial grade.

The small profile and ability to easily store away when not being used is awesome. Solid build quality, and easy to use as well.

Great quality unit. I was surprised by the studiness of construction. I've become used to cheaper plastic electronics, but this is well built. The base box is actually metal. The handset has a good weight, and good sound from the speaker. It's a great unit for my use, communicating with other trucks on a trail run, or to handheld radios.
