I picked up this radio for my vehicle once I got my GMRS license. Install was extremely easy and compact. Having the features in the mic is great to help keep your eyes on the road. Don’t hesitate to purchase. I added the 3db gain antenna and great coverage in my area.

The size of this unit is ideal, easily tucked away. The range we got in the city was about 8 miles and that was measured from a house while I drove away in my car. I do think it could go a bit further but I am in a hilly area. We have never had any issues with communicating on the road or wheelin. Great for camping/mtn biking if you pair with the handhelds.
MY ONE COMPLAINT. The stock antenna is VERY difficult to fish through tight spaces due to the fitting that is not removable. I intend to get the cable and antenna that mounts clipped to the hood

We needed a good gmrs for trail communications in our 4runner and a friend had this one. After using his, we went ahead and bought the same unit. The power is great, and easy to use out of the box. I’m still learning all of the features, but I like the interface and the ease of use. I purchased the hood mount and 3db ghost antenna but have so far had great success in a group ride setting just using the included mag antenna. At the end of the last run, we went our separate ways and had solid contact out to roughly 2 miles with the included antenna over hilly terrain.

Simple permanent install and great operation

Mounted the box under rear seats out of the way and ran ethernet cable to the front of my truck for the hand piece. Opted for the universal lip mount and ghost antenna. The combination worked really well out in the desert. Took a trip out to the Mojave and had clear signal though out. Worked well on the highway as well to coordinate breaks and fuel stops. I really like the ability of removing the remotely mounted hand piece and stashing it away when not being used. Transmit button feels a little sensitive but I got used to it right away. Owners manual was very informative and simple with directions for use, although unit is pretty intuitive on its own. I would definitely recommend this unit as a permanently mounted solution to anyone in the market.

Compact & Powerful

I was able to install it in the center console of my 2016 Impala. It took some planning, but the installation is as clean as can be without any visible wires. I ran the optional low profile antenna mount and placed it in the right side of the trunk. I ran the cable along the passenger door frame and drilled a small hole in the center console to bring in the antenna. Power is provide via the 12 volt cable and wrapped and hid it underneath the radio for the cleanest look possible.

My buddy recommended this unit to me after he installed one in his rig. I had been using a handheld unit. Better volume, clarity, and range even with the provided antenna. Very easy install in my T4R.

Nice packaging but narrowband..really?

The radio is well packaged with useful hand held controls. The ability to be able to plug the radio into the vehicle accessory port when needed is a plus. However, midland gets poor marks for not disclosing that the unit only uses narrow band. Both the manual and spec sheet do not disclose this fact. And The spec sheet is really not a spec sheet but more of a consumer brochure for advertisement. Very poor marks for this fact. This radio maybe good for some but failure to disclose the facts leaves me with a sour feeling. And asking me to rate the Battery Life of this product is down right stupid as there is no battery within the unit.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hello! We are sorry to hear that your experience didn't meet your expectations. Our MXTs are narrow band radios with the exception of the MXT400 (only) which are wide band compatible by default. Repeaters run both wide and narrow band, with wide band being more popular do to its historical use. You should check on the repeaters in your to see if they are wide or narrow band. Some are switching over to narrow band. Despite the bandwidth of the repeater, the narrow band radio is compatible with a wide band repeater. Using a narrow band radio on a wide band repeater might cause some diminished audio
