ICE MAKER STOP WORKING AFTER 1 MONTH

Hasn’t worked right since day of delivery

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] First issue…the ice maker didn’t work. Then my refrigerator froze everything…temps down to 23 degrees Fahrenheit. Freezer at -18 degrees Fahrenheit. Two part replacements later, 4 weeks of ownership and still can utilize the refrigerator unless I want everything frozen. I spent all this money to not have a working refrigerator for 4 weeks now…
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Ice dispenser never worked

Bought this 2 years ago and the extended warranty. Service tech said it's a known defect the ice will freeze in the bin and the motor is not strong enough to dispense. Replaced the bin and the motor and still doesn't work. Going to file with the State Attorney general under the appliance lemon law. Cannot recommend this model.

Another Whirlpool side-by-side

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is our third Whirlpool side-by-side. First is still working. This one replaces one that failed after about 10 years (appeared to be electrical short that caused an ice-maker problem and was caused by frayed wiring. It would have cost over $1200 to buy new door to repair. Hence the new refrigerator). So far this one has been what we expected; except that it quit cooling after about 3 months in service, while we were out of town, Of course, when we returned, it was easy to discover as the refrigerator contents were at 65 degrees. Repair service under warranty was good, although it took a few days to get part. We have diminished confidence in Whirlpool at this time.

Design Flaws

Loved the fingerprint black stainless, side by side design and most else about this refrigerator purchased in Feb 2018. However, it has bad design flaws. There is a wiring harness that is exercised everytime the freezer side is opened (You can see if you get on the floor with a flash light and a mirror). In time the wires break. Ours started with ice maker breaking. Got new ice sub assy and replaced the guts that fixed the manufacture of ice. The dispenser has not worked since before XMAS because of the wiring harness issue. And yes under warranty it would be fixed. However, the repair contractor had to order an entire door (!) from out of the country and that was in October 2020 and now in Feb 2021 still no replacement parts and no est delivery date. Oh and it freezes the eggs and is noisier than others we've had but those are minor annoyances. We are not waiting any longer because next wire that breaks the entire fridge goes so we purchased a new different model (not Whirlpool) refrigerator that will be delivered Saturday. Seems like our appliances that used to last DECADES are now only lasting years. . . They should not be disposable items.

Lots of room!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I was pretty sure I wanted a French Door refrigerator. When we went to look at them all we could find was either black stainless or stainless. After reading about the black stainless peeling issues I knew I did not want one and stainless did not fit our decor. On further review I found that people who were buying French Door refrigerators were regretting their purchase because the bottom freezer was just a catch all for frozen foods with no way to really organize. In addition, I found that the side by side had a much larger capacity. Luckily we were able to find this model in black not stainless. We have been extremely happy with our purchase. A few issues were the plastic covering that others mentioned. They pack them and the plastic covering on the doors is hard to completely remove. Our delivery person scratched the door getting some plastic off. The only other issue is the ice maker in the door. It does free up space in the freezer for more food but with only two people in our household it has frozen up and you have to remove the container, clean the area and put the ice bin back in place. As noted by others it would be nice if the shelves were adjustable but we were able to organize our food with them as they were set. The shelves in the door are plentiful and deep so they hold a lot of things. The refrigerator is very quiet the only time you hear it is when it is dropping ice. Overall we are extremely pleased with our purchase.

"Black Beauty"

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We had a difficult time buying a new refrigerator since September - Our old fridge died! We needed a 36 in. Side-by-side that was less than 69-3/4 in. tall. Black, NOT Stainless! We found a suitable fridge at the first store we visited. One day before the promised delivery they pushed it back 2 months. We cancelled the order, changed stores and found an Energy Star model, which got discontinued by the manufacturer in mid-order. Their replacement model was too tall. Then we found this giant Whirlpool 28 cu.ft. black beauty, just 69 in. tall! It arrived on schedule in March, as promised. It slid into place and fit like a glove. The invisible door hinges not only enhance the appearance, they allow the doors to open FLUSH with the cabinets (Depth was no object, we had already opened the wall behind for the original fridge). Then, we were able to load all the food from an old fridge in the basement, plus a 3 cu.ft. unit we had bought to keep some food in the laundry room. The storage features in this unit are exceptional. Huge fruit & vegetable drawers, meat & cheese drawer, gallon size door racks, 2 slide-out freezer baskets, ice maker in the door, LED lighting throughout, etc. The black doors have a mirror-like finish and the handles are magnificent. My wife loves her new Whirlpool refrigerator, inside and out! "Happy Wife, Happy Life!"
