One of the worst purchases of my lifetime.

I own multiple Ring products that were easy to setup and are easy to use. I purchased my first indoor cam (2nd Generation) to add to my collection.
It will not connect to my home network . Period. “Did you try “X”? Yes I did.”
I am not a tech noob, I understand how tech products can be tricky to setup in some cases. I turned to the net to find others with similar issues and lo and behold this particular product is one that is a pain if you can tweak your router in a certain way.
I just wanted this to be plug and play like all other Ring products but sadly this was not the case.
Avoid at all costs. You have been warned. I never write reviews….

Hi Frustratedrinhuser374758.

Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

We understand the importance of a seamless setup process so that you can begin using your Ring Indoor Cam right away. The features and technology provided by the Ring Indoor Cam are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We are here to provide you with some information to resolve the concern you mentioned in your review.

It sounds like your Ring Indoor Cam is failing to connect to your home's wifi network.

Modern modems and routers are designed to broadcast wifi networks on both 2.4 GHz and 5.0 GHz wavelengths. The Ring Indoor Cam requires a 2.4 GHz wifi network to function properly. Others are "dual-band" devices that can work on both wavelengths.

In rare cases, wifi routers are configured to broadcast only a 5.0 GHz signal. If your router can only broadcast a 5.0 GHz signal and you have a Ring device that only works with 2.4 GHz, your Ring device will not be able to "find" it during the setup process, and you will not be able to complete the in-app setup.

Visit our support center for additional details: https://support.ring.com/hc/en-us/articles/218144403-In-app-Setup-Failing-Due-to-Router-or-Modem-Issues.

I bought this to keep an eye on my garage when I am not at home. The motion sensing and night vision are excellent.

Small, inconspicuous, sensitive, captures the person perfectly and when not in use, I simply close the cover.

the only thing i dont like is the neighborhood or police watch, i can careless about crime because i will deal with criminals myself, i will take mattera into my own hands if anything ever happens. so i have no need to be watching over other people if they cant take care of themselves is their problem not mine.

Hi noneofyourbussiness.

Thank you for sharing this feedback with us.

We understand the importance of having control over the information you see or share through Ring Neighbors.

It sounds like you are not interested in the Neighbors feature in the Ring app. Users have full control over who views their Ring video recordings. Only the content that a user chooses to make publicly available on Neighbors (by posting it to the app) can be viewed via the Neighbors App or by local public safety agencies. Users can choose to share text updates, photos, and videos taken on any device, including but not limited to Ring’s home security devices. Only content that a Neighbors user chooses to share on the Neighbors App is publicly accessible through the Neighbors App or by your local public safety agency. Ring does not view or share a user’s videos that are not posted to the app without the user’s express permission or a valid and binding legal demand properly served on us.

The disable setting allows you to disable the Neighbors feed and neighborhood notifications within the Ring app. Once the Neighbors feature is disabled, the Neighbors tile on the Ring app dashboard will be removed, and you will no longer receive Neighbors notifications. This includes safety alerts and information shared by others and local public safety agencies. The Neighbors invitation options will also be removed from the Ring app dashboard and menu.

Setup is a breeze. BUT not for everyone.

Setup was extremely easy. All you need to do was scan the code and it gets added to your ring account (if you already have one). But be wary if you have spotty internet connection. Also everyone needs to know this is another one of those dreadful subscription-based services. It is not a standalone camera nor you can use it as a regular ip cam. You have to subscribe and pay a monthly/yearly fee.

Hi Short dog.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us.

We understand the importance of having all relevant product information prior to purchasing. The features and technology provided by the Ring Indoor Cam are incredibly valuable and help provide you with peace of mind about your home security. We can definitely provide you with more information regarding the concerns mentioned in your review.

It sounds like there was some confusion regarding the requirements for the device. The Ring Indoor Cam is compatible with b/g/n wifi networks operating on 2.4 GHz frequencies and requires a minimum upload speed of 2 Mbps for optimal performance.

The Ring Protect Plan is a subscription that gives you access to paid features for Ring devices such as video doorbells, cameras, alarm, and Car Cam. With a Ring Protect Plan, you can save, review, and share video recordings from your Ring devices to your Ring account.

Without a Ring Protect Plan, you can still view real-time video for Ring doorbells and cameras and answer doorbell notifications when they happen, but you don’t get video recordings of those events.
