Amazing video quality

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Just what we needed for video security. It can be hooked to your wifi network, or kept completely off the net. The setup took about 20 minutes, each camera has 60ft of wire, and it's own DVR. It needs to be hooked up to your own tv or pc monitor. but everything else is included. When you set it up, you password protect it, which is another great feature.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Stopped working after two months

I bought the 12 channel dvr thinking it would last me at least a couple years but instead it only lasted a couple of months. It says they have “on demand” customer support but every time I try to call they hang on before I can get to a representative. Stay away from these cheap products. I paid about 750 for this and two months later it’s trash.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Bad resolution not 4K

I bought this security system in January 2022 hoping that would be a great upgrade to replace my night owl 5.0 which was a HD and 5 mp cameras but after installing my new 4K 8mp cameras I realized that the resolution quality was poor and you can’t make adjustments in your cameras like brightness, contrast, color and zoom is a complete joke, glitches in the image are constant, I’m really disappointed!
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The Night Owl 4k Security Cameras are pretty amazing. We love the clarity and that we are able to use thru wifi directly to our television as well as on our phones. They also track people as they come into view so you are able to monitor quickly. The dvr also has a 1 tb hard drive so it holds a ton of video for you to keep on hand just in case anything needs to be watched. As I said before such a great device and I would definitely recommend to all in need of a great Surveillance system!

Quality security cameras, easy self install

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] My current security system is a single camera so I have been looking for a good upgrade. When I had the opportunity to try the Night Owl 12 Channel 4K DP8 Series 2TB DVR system (comes with six cameras) I took it. Overall the system looks nice, has a clear picture, and was a pretty easy install if you don’t mind entering your attic. I do have a couple of issues that are more like personal opinions which I will address later.
In the box – The camera system basically comes with everything you will need for install with the exception of any junction boxes or wall plates you may wish to use. That said you get the DVR itself, six cameras, an HMDI cable, an RJ45 cable, a mouse, six 60’ rolls of camera cable, and the power adapters/splitters. Everything was well packaged to protect from damage.
Installation – While I will not go deep into details on my installation, suffice to say I installed mine at the tops of the walls where I wanted them and ran the cables through the soffits. The lengths of cable supplied should be sufficient for most homes if you plan out the install first. I chose to place the DVR in a central location in the house which just happened to coincide with the location of my router. I also decided to have the mouse and monitor (which you supply) located in another room. This was solved with a 32’ USB extension and a 50’ HDMI cable. As I am comfortable crawling through my attic the install was pretty easy, the hardest part was at the camera connections on the DVR as the screw on connectors are super close, but this could just be my big hands.
Use – The DVR displays several different formats for the camera layout and the controls for LED, motion recording, continuous recording ETC are intuitive. The camera quality is good even with my less than 4k monitor. The camera will switch to black and white in absence of a light source and the built in LED spot lights seem to work ok but the range seems to be best within around 40’ of the cameras. Personally I just leave the LED spotlights off as the black and white seems to work well enough for the two cameras that are not in light.
Final thoughts, this is an all around great camera system. If there are any drawbacks in my mind it is that the camera lack IR which nowadays is standard on most camera systems, and that the camera housings are plastic. My concern about the plastic housings is that where I live in Florida the sun seems to quickly destroy plastic, usually in a matter of a few years. Other than my couple of reservations this is a great product!

The camera works great just like the other 4 that came with the system. What I will rate as a 0 is the app. I have not been able to us it for months, I see reviews online about the app. Others are having the same problem. What are you doing to fix it??

Turned out I didn't need it! This is my 4th Night Owl system. Each generation gets easier to set-up. I upgraded to add doorbells thinking I would need a wi-fi recorder. Thought I would like the spotlight cameras, but the spotlight comes on a lot without any motion or objects in view, tried every setting available but still on off randomly. Not a lot of adjustability (like sensitivity) as before. It is geared to use the phone app, some settings are not available on the recorder display. I have a 50" TV on my home office wall displaying 8 cameras and wanted to add doorbells and get push notifications when someone rings the doorbell,
I bought 2 doorbell cameras but when I add them to the recorder in the app the notification option for pressing the door bell goes away. Also get constant false notifications when added to the recorder, turned off vehicle and motion, left on human/ face detection but still got constant false notifications. Uninstalled them from the recorder and just added them to the app only with just notify if the doorbell is pushed and don't get any false notifications. Haven't tested the other settings installed this way but I have wired cameras covering the area already, just wanted notifications when someone rings my doorbells. If I knew this I could have just installed the doorbells and kept my old system. For most people or first time buyers, this system would be easier to self install and set-up than previous recorders, phone app is adequate and younger would probably prefer the phone app, but for me I miss the more detailed adjustments.

I upgrade my old 8channel 1080p to the 4K... The quality is just like they stated! Vivid & much better, the field of view is wider also. Only negative is thde DVR doesnt have audio in like my old one; I only had one audio camera anyway. So, it was a good trade.
