Powerful laptop with the latest top mobile CPU and second from the top GPU that Intel and nVidia have to offer in mid-2024, it has operated well for me over the last month that I have owned it. Today I upgraded it by adding a 2TB Samsung 990 NVME M.2 SSD into the "SSD2" location on the ASUS MB and it initialized and formatted flawlessly in Windows 11. So I now enjoy a total of 3TB storage, with the original 1TB Hynix M.2 SSD acting as the boot drive (drive 0; "C" drive) and the new drive as secondary storage (drive 1; "D" drive). With the 32GB of DDR5 SODIMM RAM this laptop far exceeds the performance benchmarks of my 9-year-old Skylake desktop in capabilities; except the ability to run cool and silent. I've noted that the CPU temperature does max out under heavy gaming, but it hasn't noticeably affected gameplay [ESO only]. Alas, in my limited experience with laptops, they just never seem to handle peak loads without hitting thermal limits on the CPU. I may have to invest in one of those cooling devices I've seen that support the laptop and dissipate some of the heat produced; but I probably won't do it unless I actually see a problem or get tired of the fans spinning up to top speed (they can be loud, but headphones help). One or two performance cores have hit 100 C [using hwmonitor] max. So far I have no complaints.

Like it. Great performance. Excellent screen. It runs very quietly in office mode. Naturally, it gets noisy during gaming. I run performance tests on the first day - it handled everything. Satisfied

Out of the box, I was a bit disappointed that the computer was not really using the RTX 4080 GPU when I was gaming in Edge. When I did a performance test, the 2D graphics was using the integrated GPU for most of the testing, but occasionally I could see the computer switch to the 4080; the 3D graphics tests used the RTX from the start. It was very interesting to see the MUX switch in action. The test results were in the 50% for the 2D graphics, but the upper 90% for everything else. I'm sure if I went in and set the options in Windows for the test software to only use the dedicated RTX 4080 GPU the test results for the 2D would have been much better. It took a good bit trying to adjust various settings before I could see the GPU being used at all in Edge. That all being said, the default settings seem to favor power saving and trying to use the integrated GPU unless there is very high graphics demand. The game I was playing in Edge was using about 80-90% of the integrated GPU before I told windows to use the dedicated RTX 4080 GPU with Edge. Once I did that, the 4080 ran at about 25% when gaming in Edge. Since I am always using the laptop when plugged in, the extra power draw is not a concern.

I think I was caught up in the honeymoon phase of this computer. After having it for a couple weeks now I think my head is clear to really give an honest opinion. I like the computer, truly. What I don't like is how bad the battery life is when I am not plugged in. I bought this computer for my small business and to do some AI work. I was working on Excel and noticed how fast the battery drains. I didnt have anything else running, nor have I played any games on this system. I bought it more because of the specs to handle the AI aspect of what I want to do. I also am a bit "meh" about how easily the open space on the keyboard where my palms rest get oil stained so easily as do the keys. I wish it was made of something that would resist the oils from hands more.

I just bought an Asus ROG Strix Scar 16 (2024 model", and so far, I love this machine. It's handled everything I've thrown at it so far. Only complaint? The RGB lighting, especially on the keyboard, seems cheap. The colors aren't bright and vibrant like they were on the Legion 9i I just returned. That and the clear plastic stuff that goes around the outside edge of the machine looks kinda cheap. Im not a fan of being able to see through the top half of the keyboard either, but honestly, none of this bothers me enough to not be happy with it. 10/10 would def recommend to a friend. Very nice, smooth, and lightweight machine that performs better than my Alienware and the Legion 9i I had for awhile. One more thing, upon registering it, i got complimentary 1 year accidental damage protection, so I'm very impressed. Go buy a Scar!
