Not as easy as it should be

I've owned this device about 8 months. Overall I like it and find it useful. The side buttons are a bit difficult to use with gloves on. I have uploaded several custom routs. Unfortunately, this requires a desktop or laptop computer where I would prefer to use my phone or tablet. The battery life is excellent, approximately 10+ hours. The screen can be difficult to read when wearing polarized sunglasses. I have it paired with the Wahoo heart monitor strap as well as the Garmin cadence sensor. Both work flawlessly.
I’m mostly a runner who does bike a little. Using this on my bike with a radar is so much better and worthwhile than using my watch. Took me a few years to finally get it, but I am so glad I did.
I bought the 540 to help finding biking trails and actually learning were I have lived my whole life and never taken the time to enjoy it until now, it works, very detailed, still learning the device, a lot of info jammed in it, not to hard just learning a new one, and yes the sos emergency features do work, I found out first hand over the handle bars
I find it difficult to turn off features that I do not want, navigating the screens is confusing and setting up profiles is not intuitive. There is very limited information in the manual on how to set up, turn on/off features and other information about using the computer. There are too many features added that I do not need. Sometimes less in more.

I had an older Garmin that I didn't like because it was touchscreen, and I was hard to use wearing gloves. . . it died from getting too wet. For a while I've been using a Wahoo and it's been good, but I missed some of the Garmin features, and the maps worked better (It gave better turn-by-turn instructions, and didn't have to backtrack as much to find my way). So, now I purchased this Edge 540. . . and it's not intuitive. It's nothing like the older Garmin I had, and the buttons it does have make no sense to me. I'm always clicking the wrong buttons and takes 5 tries to do what I want to do. It just seems overly difficult compared to the older model, and other brands for the sake of being difficult. It does what it's supposed to do, but it's going to take me awhile before I intuitively click what I want the first time.
