I needed a replacement computer and this happened to be on sale. It is by far the best unit I have ever had. There is so much information and technology built into this bicycle computer. It is outstanding.

Really liking the Edge 540

My old Garmin (Edge 500) gave up the ghost after over 10 years of use. I have the non-touch screen 540. I don't think the buttons work as well as the old 500, but not a big deal. The only thing I don't like is changing the screen displays is not intuitive and has taken a while to figure out. I think Garmin could work on the UX some and it would be a perfect computer. So...that being said, it works great, connects to my power meter and HR monitor everytime and uploads to Garmin Connect everytime. No complaints and I like the newer screens re: power and HR.

Good Features, speed and buttons should be better

This is a good computer but at this price point and in 2035, i was expecting smaller bezels and brighter screen. I also find the UI to be slow. I have no issues navigating the 540 with buttons. Some reviews said it’s hard and designed for a touch screen 840 but if you use a garmin watch with buttons is the same idea. The main issue is the button response. I often click but it doesn’t take. It’s like an old school calculator where you really have to press hard and there is wiggle in the buttons so sometimes it doesn’t go straight down and doesn’t activate the click. Absolutely unacceptable at this price point and very disappointing. I also don’t like that I can’t use the computer for the bike portion of a triathlon and have it record instead of my watch. This feature is a must for a multi sport athlete.

Menu is not intuitive

I purchased this as a gift. The person I gave it to gave it back after about 2 week. They could not get it to display the metrics they wanted. I then attempted to set up the unit for them. It took significant effort to get the metrics to display, however there are features they wanted to turn off, but I still am working on that.

I had an Edge 520 for a long time and the 540 is even more user friendly. Also longer battery life and metrics

Bad buttons

Thus unit functions really well from a software perspective and I really like the screen options and visibility, BUT THE BUTTON SENSATION IS VAGUE AT BEST… I find myself searching and searching for a solid button push. This simple hardware issue makes the unit a 2-star item for me. I’d easily give it 5-stars if the buttons worked reliably.

Great product but is so weak and will shatter on any minor crash. This is my 4th one I’ve gone through
