All aspects are great except one- I wish if I was running my fenix7 and the edge 540 at the same time doing a road cycle event it would group the two events into one event in garmin contact

Good, but is the Solar Option Worth It?

I have had my Garmin 540 Solar for about one month and so far I am very pleased with it. It replaces my Garmin 520 in which the battery died and the upgraded software and features alone make it worth the money. As far as the additional money for the solar option, the jury is still out. If price is an issue, skip the solar and go with the regular 540. I'll know more after I log in a few five to six hour rides.

I’ve used it on 10 rides now. Set up and menu navigation are both more difficult than my 530+ with seemingly extra steps to get anywhere. Some of the new features like climbing pro are great but…buggy. While claiming you can change two data fields on the screen, you can’t. While customer service was surprised to see that, the “solution” offered - do it on the app, didn’t work. Maybe with more tinkering, I’ll get used to it but for now it appears to be a package perhaps needing some cleanup and/or less ambitious feature set.
