These have great quality video but will jot stay connected most of the time. Keeps dropping out and says oops. The audio is useless because it is choppy and cannot hear what anyone says. I have a older wired version without audio that works much better. I was really hoping this would work well. Very disappointed.
I will never buy night owl again. And ive been using them since 2016. My 720 and 1080p cameras, and the old dvr are way better then these 4k. I'm so disappointed. Haven't had them for a year and the cameras are already having problems. The new dvr is useless. I don't understand why you guys took all the best features and got rid of them. I'm so mad i can't even explain all the problems I've encountered within the last 9 months.
Recently purchased one of these new 4K systems. I had a 5 year old 1080P system and thought I would upgrade. Will return as basic features that did exist no longer do. Expected it to be better quality video and add and enhance features from the older application. Not the case. Although the video recording quality seems good, the system is now missing basic features such as being able to record audio. My old system had 2 audio recording channels connected directly to audio cameras. I had an audio camera in the front and rear of my home. New system has no audio recording or playback although sales description have wireless cameras states recording of audio. does not make sense. System only seems to be able to Export video based on "Events". Old system I could set a start and end time for exporting. Sometimes small movements are not part of an Event and the recording of sound would also not be an event but you may want to export with the sound just for timeframe of sound. Have given videos to the police multiple times. Cannot give up that feature. Only reason for "Continuous" recording a channel would be to be able to export a range of time and for sound. Strange that an "Upgrade" would result in less basic features than previous very old systems. Not sure who designs these and decides what features. Time to go elsewhere

This system has been installed for almost a month. The setup was great. Using the app for playback/viewing is definitely not great. If the DVR is set for motion detection the option to view in continuous playback is not available. This should be basic technology. When using Time Line playback the app freezes or fails to load the playback. If you are wanting a system with playback/viewing options this is not the system to purchase.
I installed the DVR-BTD8-81 last week. I got it to replace the dvr in my Night Owl C50XFR system. That dvr was knocked out by an apparent electrical surge which came through the Ethernet cable. This BTD8 dvr lacks a lot of the features of the older system. It does not provide the premotion recording of the C50XFR. The sensitivity settings of only Low, Middle or HIgh are not reliable. Low does not record anything. Middle records to much during the night when bugs are attracted to the light, but misses motion several feet away. The high setting records to much. It just records almost continuously. The setting in the app or on the moniter are very simple, but not enough options for setting the cameras and recording options. I do not recommend this system.
