Once finished, the set looks good. Building it was annoying. Several of the pieces would fall off the set when trying to attach more. At 60 yrs old, I don’t often worry about the playability of a set, but the doors won’t open because of the “rug” behind it. The outhouse is cute. The skating pond is innovative. Again, it looks good but it’s difficult to assemble and I wouldn’t let kids play with it because it’s rather flimsy.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

To anyone who still thinks the old Winter Village sets were better, I implore you to take your nostalgia blinders off.
Alpine Lodge is a gorgeous build with so many little details that it immediately jumps into one of the best holiday sets Lego has made. The log cabin feel is so unique and well-executed that it'll stand out among its peers (in a good way). The inclusion of a front balcony adds even more depth to a set that is leagues above the facades in last year's Holiday Main Street.
The minifig selection is great and the side builds actually feel like they have a meaningful contribution to give. I especially love the frozen lake with the translucent icy blue panels, it's design choices like these that make this such a well-rounded set.
Above all else, my favorite thing about this set is the fireplace. It feels like more of a centerpiece than the tree on the lower level, and I love how creatively they utilized it on the second floor.
I have a few gripes with this set but they're pretty minor. One is that the section with the chairs on the ground floor likes to occasionally pop out of place when moving the set. Second, I wish that the roof was split into brown and white in the back instead of just being all white. Third, it can be a little difficult to access the kitchen and booking segment of the bottom floor- I find that to access their accessories it's pretty much required to remove the entire block.
All things considered, there's so much to love in Alpine Lodge that the flaws are easily overshadowed. Where Holiday Main Street felt more like a variety pack to add to a big winter setup, this is a set that you could easily display on its own. If you're a fan of the season, I can't recommend this set enough- Lego designers are getting better and better at their job and their there mastery shines.
