Great Smart Door Lock Without a Deadbolt
on May 7, 2021
Posted by: Anonymous
I needed a smart door lock for the side entry door to my garage. I have several of these for my home and needed one that didn't require a deadbolt too. This option was a perfect fit for my situation. The installation was very easy and quick to complete. This lock is loaded with features that are great for convenience. One of my favorite features is the ability to give someone temporary access, such as allowing a neighbor inside to check on my home while away. I still carry keys with me just in case there's any issues, because you can never fully trust technology.

Sleek design, easy access and secure entry.

There is not anything to dislike about this lock, and this has been our go-to brand for the Air B&Bs that we manage for the sheer ease of setting up access codes and making our guests feel like they're staying in a high end SAFE hotel. The instillation is also effortless and pairing with the app for notifications and monitoring takes no time at all. The lever design is like that of a hotel room door and it is just an overall wonderful look, quality, convenience AND peace of mind for all of us at a great price.

The material online calls this a WiFi lock but the reality is, you need a WiFi bridge for this to actually work. Otherwise the only time you can connect with your phone is if it is within Bluetooth range. I bought a WiFi bridge and now you can connect with the app form anywhere. The Bridge came with a plug for the UK...how stupid is this shipping to the U.S.? Bought an adapter to make it work. The interior lock lever is supposed to slip over a button that pushes in to hold it in place. I experienced a lot of friction when I tried to slip it on. The exterior one slipped right on, no problem. I used a file to lessen the slope it had to slide over. Hopefully, I never have to take the handle off since it went on rather difficult. Also, the documentation for connecting to the app and WiFi bridge is sketchy at best. Luckily, the app itself is fairly intuitive. I am using this in an outdoor setting, so durability is yet to be determined. I read another review regarding the keypad needing to be angled upward so you can actually see the numbers on the keypad. This would be a major improvement as it is very difficult to see the keypad lettering. Overall, I think the lock and technology is a good idea but needs some perfecting, especially slipping on the door handle. Also, they need to include the WiFi bridge or don't call this a WiFi lock.

I bought these to use with my rental properties and have had 5 of them (out of 7) fail in the past 6 months causing guests to get locked out and then having to find the physical key to open the door. Quality control is horrible with these locks. Stay away!

Great potential but needs redesign

This works as intended and by adding a connection module update it earns a fourth star. The short-coming lies in the physical design of the keypad area. The keypad is arranged vertically on a door lock that is mounted at or near waist high. The black keypad is unlighted until a key is pressed so it is not easy to find the first key of your combination. The checkmark key is on the bottom left and must be pressed after entering the combination. I think that the keypad should be arranged on a 45 degree slanted surface making it easier to see and access. I also think that there should be a key above the keypad that will turn on the lighted keypad. My partial fix is to pick a key on the first row to use as the first number in my combination. The best solution I found is by adding the connection module, I can use my Apple Watch after setting up the app as a complication so it will appear on the first screen, or my iPhone to unlock the lock with a single button press after opening the app. There is a bluetooth proximity detector feature that will auto-unlock when I approach the door with my iPhone upon returning home. It is activated whenever all the connected phones are at least 200 feet away from home. Then walk up to the door and it unlocks. To earn a 5 star rating, Yale needs to slant the keypad, add the light key and connection module and it would be a 5 star. Some door locks add a fingerprint sensor but that is wasted on seniors that have worn down their fingerprints, or anyone with gloves, etc.

Absolute Nightmare - Consistent Issues with Keypad

I purchased 8 of these locks for a small boutique motel my family runs. The locks arrived several months later than expected due to supply chain issues.
Upon arrival 2 out of the 8 locks did not work, producing issues when trying to set up a master code. To Yale's credit, they promptly replaced both locks.
For one of the replacements, they sent the wrong lock - I am still struggling to get this resolved.
Additionally a 3rd lock has no stopped working, the lock can be used via the app but the keypad surfaces repeated errors. This is extremely problematic when trying to operate a motel as the scheduled guest was unable to get into their room.
I love the design of these locks. The App and setup (when it's worked) has been great.
The quality of the locks has been horrendous and we've spent far more time trouble shooting issues than the amount of time we've saved by having "smart" locks at our business.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This is a great lock set. It looks and feels heavy duty. Not having to use a key to get into the house makes life a little easier. It works great with the app. Installation was no more difficult than doing a typical lock set. Programming was a little tricky the first time, but I will blame that entirely on myself since I didn't bother to read the directions. Once I took a few minutes to read them over, it went a lot smoother.I like that there is an option to use a key if needed. With technology, you never know when it suddenly won't work, or the battery simply goes dead. We've had this installed for almost a month now, and it's working great.
