Mostly a fantanstic lock
on October 2, 2020

This was easy to install, looks to be well made and was also easy to program. My only issue with it is that I would like to see a feature to enable the button lights to be activated somehow. In a dark doorway, if I hit the wrong button first, then I have to cancel the entry and start again: no biggie, except that the back-light immediately goes out, leaving me guessing where to press the correct button again.....

It’s a Yale, so should be good.

This is a Yale lock, so I expected a sturdy mechanically sound product, and that’s what I got. This is the least expensive lock in the series, and it does exactly what I wanted, and nothing I didn’t want. It has a key override if the electronics fail or the batteries die. The primary feature I needed was a lock that locks itself once unlocked, and that’s what it does, regardless of how it was unlocked. It can be set to lock between 30 seconds and 3 minutes. The instructions are extremely well done, making the installation easy to get right the first time. Programming was not hard if you follow the instructions. A little expensive, but it’s a Yale, not some Chinese knockoff. Depends how important security is.

Nice lock

I've installed a few electronic locks on the doors of my house and so far this one has been the easiest to install. It doesn't have all the features of other other electronic locks, but in some cases less can be more depending on what you are looking for. There's also an option to buy a wireless receiver upgrade for it. I think it's nice they offer additional features for their lock, but realize not everyone may need them, so offer it as a add-on.The key lock itself is a little screwy and it takes some time to get used to how it actually works.

Poor quality & longevity.

This product has poor longevity. The electronics fail almost immediately after the 2-year warranty expires. Look at the other reviews for this and the similar Yale products. It’s a shame, but make sure you buy an extended warranty.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Uninstallable lock - manufacturing defect

Paid a handyman to install this and after a couple hours on the phone with Yale support, the customer support rep said that it was a faulty lock. The rep added that it was an issue that is more and more common where there is oversized piece that prevents you from being able to install the lock. Sent it back, got a refund, but I’m out some money I paid to the handyman.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

5-Star Features - 2-Star Security
on January 19, 2020

The newest generation of Yale locks continues to impress me with their durability and functionality. This lock is no exception, with one glaring concern: I would never use this style lock as the primary lock for an exterior door. The deadbolt models of this lock are excellent, but this does not provide anything approaching the physical security of a deadbolt. With that said, this might be fine for an owner's closet at a rental property, or a similar use - with the caveat that you would need to make certain that the batteries always have a charge.Installation and programming are very straightforward. Programming uses the standard option tree found in other Yale touchpad locks, and allows you to set up a master code as well as 25 additional entry codes (or 250 if you install a "Smart Module."For basic functionality, a Smart Module isn't necessary, but you will need one for increased functionality. If you already have a smart hub, the Z-Wave (if compatible) is likely the better choice since using it will allow you to avoid having to install an additional app. If you only plan on controlling this lock, you can use the August module (and app) to control the lock over Wi-Fi. As with all security decisions, make certain you are aware of the risks associated with various connectivity options.Overall I have no complaints about the functionality and interface for the lock. Again, my only concern is that the physical security provided by a spring bolt is not adequate security for most applications where a battery-powered keypad is desirable.

Good lock, easy to use, better than those with keypad on the knob
on January 24, 2020

I originally had one of the keypad on the knob type locks (there are several brands, all Asian & all essentially the exact sameknob lock) for this door, however it was constantly problematic... I never could get it to change the master code, It needed frequent battery replacements (& you essentially have to disassemble the knob to do that), & there are screws that go into both knobs - the inside and outside knobs - that would constantly come loose or even fall out (so the knobs were loose & wobbly on the door). It was a constant hassle & not secure. This Yale is a far superior lock unit. Heavy duty construction that feels very solid & secure especially from the outside. I accidentally discovered that if the outside unit is disconnected from the inside unit it triggers a loud alarm so someone trying to disassemble or break it will have quite a loud alarm surprise. It was pretty easy to install but look closely for the pictures that show screw installation to hold the inside the house unit in place, it's easily missed - I had to back up and troubleshoot why it was loose & discovered I'd missed that step. Fyi - I didn't have to replace the existing internal latch as it's works with this, the standard size. It's very easy to program and has a multitude of features the knob lock didn't offer - check out the features listing that I uploaded as well as the step by step instructions for programming, which were very easy to follow.I highly recommend this lock! The only variable at this point is how long the batteries will last.

No more keys in pocket!
on January 20, 2020

I love this lock!! Love love love!!I can't stand having things in my pockets, especially a ring of keys. It is just plain uncomfortable, but we've all had to do it most of our lives if we went to get back into our homes. This lock solves this problem by allowing easy access by simply entering a code!It was so easy to install in place of our existing lock on the garage entry door. Now, we can just drive into the garage and enter the code into the lock to open the door. It is so convenient and I wish we'd had this a long time ago.The lock looks beautiful and matches our other hardware perfectly. If feels solid and works flawlessly. It does come with keys as a backup, in case something goes wrong with the code entry part. We just hid a key in the garage just in case we ever need it.This is a wonderful, solid product and I can easily recommend it.
