Great for mixing in compost!

I started with ground that had been broken up a bit with a shovel first as this isn't strong enough to break up hard-packed ground but once I had big chunks of dirt to work with the cultivator did a very good job, especially in an irregularly shaped area which would be difficult to cover well with a more traditional rotating-tine rototiller.

I'm retired and have serious back issues. I bought this to help my back out, and I really like this cultivator. You don't realize the demand on the battery from the resistance of the tines working the soil until you use it. And the batteries and the cultivator handle it just fine. It's surprisingly light weight, which helps my back. The only thing keeping the rating from being five stars is no matter how tight I get it, the telescoping handle won't stay at the length I prefer and need.

Excellent cultivator

Years ago I had a Ryobi that was duplicate to this cultivator. It lasted forever and died, and Ryobi discontinued it and I was terribly sad. Then I found this Black and Decker, IT IS SO PERFECT. It digs into any kind of terrible soil which I need. Also, perfect between close flowers of vegetable garden rows!
