Homing in on the perfect machine
on February 3, 2025

SodaStream is getting close to perfecting the ability to make carbonated water. I had one of the originals: it simply froze up one day and wouldn't work. SodaStream replaced it. The next gen didn't freeze up, but it got 'sticky' and because hard to open up to get the bottle in. SodaStream replaced it too. This recent machine is electric, and seems to be functioning perfectly.

Nice Upgrade

I’ve had soda streams for years. Unfortunately, our house burned in the Palisades fires and I needed to buy a new machine. The E-Duo has been great. Quick, quieter and I love my new glass carafe.

Quick & Easy Soda Water Any Time
on February 12, 2025

I don't drink a lot of sugar sodas, but I love having soda water with lemon. I rotate several bottles in my fridge and now I never run out. It's so easy to make. And for those times when I do want a bit of soda pop, I use a squirt of Mio to add more flavor. Well worth the purchase.

Works Great

I’ve been using my unit for a few weeks and it works great. I like a lot of carbonation and was worried it wouldn’t be enough but it’s fine.

Clunky

The idea is good, the execution is poor. The bottles are heavy and clunky. The way you have to struggle with securing the bottle before bubbles is clunky. If you have any issues with your hands, this is not the machine for you. It makes good bubbles, but who wants to wrestle to get them? If I had the chance I would have returned it, but it was already a replacement for a model that broke down.

I always start with water that has been chilled in the refrigerator. The E-Duo produces water that is less carbonated than I'd like and the water loses it's fizz faster than I'd like. The water is pretty good if it's immediately consumed.
If the one liter of water produced is going to be consumed over an extended period of time it would be nice to have a container that can be pressurized after each opening to help preserve the carbonation. Maybe a cap with a pressurizing pump built in. Or the ability to carbonate water in smaller, 8-12 oz. single serving bottles. I've tried transferring the water to 10 oz. glass bottles immediately after carbonating (3 bottles/liter) for longer term storage in the refrigerator and that works fairly well except that you lose some of the initial fizz when pouring the water from one container to the other.
The ability to use the machine to carbonate smaller bottles of water would be ideal for my purposes and preferences.
I usually flavor my water so recarbonating the water as it goes flat is not permitted according to Sodastream operating instructions. I do top off and recarbonate the liter bottles of plain water if they go flat and that works well to reinvigorate plain water.
I directly carbonate water in the 1 liter Sodastream "thermos" to take to work every day which works out pretty well though by the time I get to the bottom of the bottle most (but not all) of the fizz is gone.
So, an "Okay" review.

E-Duo sodastream
on February 27, 2025

My roommate was diagnosed with diabetes, so no more normal soda for him, and I've been looking to cut it out to help lose weight. The sodastream lets us enjoy the flavors we love for almost no calories or sugars, making it a diabetic friendly option for my roommate, and a dietary friendly option for me. Not only is it a fraction of the calories and sugars, but it's also a fraction of the cost compared to normal sodas making this thing pay for itself within only a few weeks to months depending on your usual soda intake. Would highly recommend this for anyone looking to cut calorie intake, sugars, or cost relative to normal soda products, especially if you're not a fan of the usual diet sodas.
