Best Family Gift Ever!

We invested in the Yukon XL stove as a family Christmas present this year. The stove arrived Christmas Eve and our first fire was awesome. The setup was a breeze and we were “on fire” in no time. We loved the size and the ease of maintaining the flame. The craftsmanship and design is excellent and the stove is really smokeless like advertised! Best Christmas present ever - we look forward to the outside family time and the warmth and glow of our new Solo Stove for years to come.

I bought the Yukon and stand for myself for Christmas and it arrived on the estimated ship date. My plan was to use it on our wood deck since I had seen Solo's advertisements and they show people happily using their stoves on their decks. Then when I read the directions, they said to use on wood and composite decks at your own risk, so that worried me. Since I was worried, I put a half sheet of plywood down on my wood deck. Also, we had a rare PNW snowfall so the plywood was laid down on about 2 inches of snow. I burned some really dry doug fir for about 6 hours and the fire was great! There wasn't any wind but I believe there really was less smoke than our old fire pit and it burned hot and I didn't smell like smoke the next day. It seemed like it needed to be loaded up to burn the most efficiently and when it was loaded I could see flames coming from the inner holes in the stove. It put out a lot of heat and we were able to maintain a safe "Covid" distance around the fire and stay warm. The next day I removed the fire pit from the plywood sheet and there was no burn mark or evidence of heat on the plywood below the stove. When I lifted the plywood, the snow underneath was still there and unmelted too. However, I do not plan on using the stove on the deck again because of the sparks that shot out during the fire. The sparks would have made small burn marks in the deck but luckily it was saved from that due to the snow. One could put a screen on the stove but I don't want to have to lift a screen every time I want to add more wood. After the first burn, the stove has turned a copper color on the upper half. So far, I have to give this 5 stars!
