Yukon Fire Pit

The Yukon is beautiful and burns like a beast. We’ve had so many compliments on how nice it looks, how hot it burns and how niceness it is not to have to make around trying to escape smoke.

Yukon - Go Big

I have been searching for a good sized fire pit for the centerpiece of my deck. When I saw that Solo was building a larger model, it seemed like it would be a good fit. Let me tell you, the Yukon lives up to it’s name. That thing showed up last week and it’s perfect for a large outdoor space. The construction is very nice. I lit my first fire last night and so far I’m extremely impressed with the performance. We made s’mores and watched the fireflies with very little smoke. Perfect way to close out a summer weekend.

Great Fires, some small design flaws

Overall we love the Yukon firepit. The fires are awesome and the kicks up a ton of heat, gone are the days of having to huddle around the firepit with hands out to get some heat, this thing kicks out a ton of heat. You can actually just get a fire with 1/2 of it and still get a secondary burn.
There are a few design issues to be aware of though: (1) you have to remove ash by flipping it over. This is cumbersome since this thing is HUGE! It would be nice to be able to remove the bottom grate to vacuum it out instead (2) there are NO drainage holes, so if you get some water in it because you left it open and it rained (we've had to do this since it was too hot to cover or move), you also have to flip it over. (3) The cover sucks with rain. They have a new cover with a slight dome to it that would help, but really it should be included and not cost so much extra (4) The volume is really only about 2/3 of what you think it is because the middle part of the grate is humped in the middle. Which is probably a good thing since this thing consumes logs pretty quick. Just be aware it doesn't hold as much wood as it looks like it would.

All in all it's a great firepit, I think there are some design flaws based on it's size that just didn't work when it was scaled up from their other designs.

I was skeptical that the Yukon would perform as advertised re: smoke...but I tried it out last night and in a side by side test, it did have less smoke and it burned cleaner, in my opinion.

Nice and Fun

I immediately did my Tom Hanks Cast Away 'Look! I have made fire!' bit once it got going, so that was fun. Our wood was a bit wet but still good enough. The product is really well made. It's noisy so at night if you are taking it apart at night you may wake the neighbors up.
Here are the things I'm concerned with: The one thing I am super scared of is someone stealing this thing, especially with that nice cover with the logo on it. There isn't a hole to chain it to my patio anywhere. We live in a safe neighborhood but our back yard backs up against a popular park and if someone knew what these are and how much they are there isn't much preventing them from stealing it. I am certainly not going to haul this thing to my garage every time I use it at 2AM when I'm fired' out. The other thing is that I don't have a cover that prevents water from getting in while it's still hot. I also have no handles to move it around easily. You could engineer some handles that lye flat with the curve within the double-wall constructions and it would still look good. The last thing is that I haven't found a trash bag big enough to pour the ashes in, so I have to cut one bag open and lay it flat, pour the ash out carefully, then carefully transfer it to a real trash bag container.
Other than that I'm super happy we have something cool! Nice invention, wish I'd thought of it!

This is so easy to get lit and to keep a fire going in it, not only is it beautiful to look at on it own it is relaxing and fun to watch the fire.

Awesome fire!

Best firepit you can buy! I love the gasifier concept for a firepit. I own a smaller, gasifier type firepit. It pales in comparison to the Yukon! I also bought the firepit tools and the solo sticks. Would never go back to a regular firepit!
