Fast Printer and It’s Not Too Big

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Didn’t take too long to set up. But as a Mac user I did have to go searching for the drivers on Cannon’s website as Mac OS does not recognize the printer on its on. For iOS it worked seamlessly. It prints fairly fast and would be great for a small business or family that had a kid needing to print lots of papers as it is black and white only. You do get a lot of printing done per cartridge which is a plus of a laser printer over ink jet printers.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This is a very nice printer. The setup was very straightforward and only took a couple of minutes to complete. The printer works flawlessly and prints quickly from anywhere that you are. The Wi-Fi capability and two sided printing is a must.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I'm very happy with this Canon laser printer. This unit replaced an older printer of mine and it's so quick. Great features such as printing right from your phone. The unit seems compact compared to other laser printer in this price range. Very happy with the product!

Professional Quality

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This printer provides professional quality in a consumer grade product. I have been extremely happy with the prints that have come from this printer. The one thing I’ll say is that for a single function printer it’s kind of large for a consumer device. You definitely need a little extra room compared to an inkjet printer, but those that are used to laser printers shouldn’t be surprised.

A Great Small Business/Family Printer

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I recently opened up the Canon imageCLASS LBP236dw - Wireless, Duplex, Mobile-Ready Laser Printer for use at home in a mixed Windows 11 laptop, Android, and IOS environment. Please see experiences below. For a TL;DR, please skip to the end.
Specs: A small business-class printer (designed for use by up to 5 people and small print jobs), the printer supports Windows 8.1 and up, Windows Server 2012 and up, and /Mac OS X 10.11 or later. It prints up to 40 pages per minute (letter) and 35 pages per minute (legal) (monochrome only, no color), with the first page out in as fast as 5.4 seconds. You can also use statement and custom settings. It can print on envelopes, plain paper, and labels. Envelopes, paper, and label minimum supported dimensions are 4.1” x 5.8” and max supported dimensions are 8.5” x 14”. Glossy and matte media are not recommended. The feeder (with remaining-paper indicator… a nice value add, as it eliminates the need to guess how much paper is left in the tray) has a 900-sheet max capacity, with a caveat. Out of the box, you can load 100 sheets in the multi-purpose tray and 250 sheets in the onboard tray. So, OOB, you get a 350-sheet capacity. You can purchase an optional AH-1 tray to expand sheet capacity to 550 more sheets (for a total of 900 supported sheets). The standard tray can support 16lb bond to 32lb bond. The multipurpose tray can support 16lb bond to 35lb bond. The printer can auto-duplex. The output tray supports 65 sheets. Two toner cartridges are available for purchase – a high yield (which will print up to 10K pages) and a standard yield (which will print up to 3100 pages). Max resolution is 600 x 600 dpi. Onboard memory is 1GB. Supported printer languages are UFR II, PCL 6, PCL 5, Adobe PostScript 3. Regarding available connections, the printer has onboard 10/100/1000 ethernet. For those planning to hardwire (and are concerned about security, etc.) you get IP/MAC Address Filtering, IPSEC, TLS Encrypted Communication, SNMP V3.0, IEEE 802.1X, and IPv6. The printer offers one USB 2.0 port, which supports USB-direct printing for JPEG, TIFF, and PDF. The printer has built-in wireless support (which allows not only in-network printing from various devices but also remote print using the Canon Business Print app – iOS and Android – Apple AirPrint, and Mopria). Supported wireless protocols are 802.11 b/g/n. WiFi security includes WEP 64/128 bit, WPA-PSK (TKIP/AES), WPA2-PSK (AES). Authentication uses WPA2-PSK (AES). WPS easy setup is supported. If you don’t have a router, no worries… you can connect directly to the printer’s WiFi direct connection. The printer has an available Energy Saver feature to cut energy costs. When running, it can use up to 1300w. When in standby, it drops to 8.5w. In sleep mode, it drops further, to around .9w. The unit’s footprint is 15.8”W x 9.8”H x 14.7”D. Warranty is a standard one-year limited manufacturer.
OOB: You get the LBP236dw printer, a 057 starter cartridge (Up to 1,500 pages), software DVD-ROM (it’s better to go to the manufacturer’s website to get the latest drivers if you can), a Power Cord, and a Starter Guide.
Setup: Unboxing and setup was easy. I did a full wireless setup. Side note: I do not like bloat on my devices and rarely download manufacturer full software packages, knowing that my approach likely sacrifices extra printer functionality. However, if you want the hands-down easiest approach to printer installs, go to the device manufacturer’s website/the app store and download and install their software BEFORE you attempt to connect to the printer either wirelessly or via a physical connection (like a USB cable). After connecting the printer to my wireless network (the onboard keypad works surprisingly well for entering upper- and lower-case letters, numbers, and characters), both my Android phone and my son’s iPhone found the printer right away through the built-in print-share drivers. My Windows 11 PC saw the printer on the network and knew what it was, but there were no generic Windows drivers that supported the printer. I had to go to the Canon website (which offers both a full package with dedicated software and drivers as well as barebones print drivers to meet your print needs) and download the PCL6 driver. After doing so, the printer worked flawlessly and gave me the basic print options that I needed.
Security and Device Management: This device is truly a small business-ready printer in that it offers a host of user management and security features. From restricting access privileges, to network security, to dedicating and restricting print functions… either onboard or through a remote UI, the LBP236dw packs in a lot of functionality.
Print Speed, Quality, and Print Availability.: Wow! This thing is fast. Once printing started (in about the five seconds noted previously, from PC send to printer job start, the Canon printed each page (with a crisp, clean, and clear printout) in a little over 2 seconds. Fonts and images were both business-ready. A former network administrator with thousands of printer support hours under my belt, this printer definitely has a place in both the home office and in the workplace. Its auto-wake and auto-sleep feature allows you to turn on and off the Canon at certain times… lessening the need to walk to the Canon and turn it on so your devices see the printer on the network. You can also set an auto off timer (up to two hours). The settings let you decide whether you want on-demand printing or if you’d rather save money and power by having to walk to the Canon to turn it on before printing.
Recommended Purchase?: Absolutely. The LBP236dw is a small-business-/family-ready laser printer that offers a lot of functionality at a reasonable price… all packed in a relatively small footprint. It can be as power-hungry and ready to print or as power-frugal as you’d like. It offers a host of security, user, and function management features – manageable using either the onboard and/or remote UI. Connecting to Android and Apple devices was easy. Connecting to a Windows PC was relatively simple, with one minor (and easy-to-resolve) driver snag. The Canon comes OOB ready to hold up to 350 sheets, expandable to 900 and supports numerous file and print types. Most importantly, it can handle everything from envelopes to statement-sized prints on many bond types… and printing is super fast, clean, and clear. This printer is a solid four-star purchase in my book. Five stars, at least for me, means that a product goes beyond expectations… doing more than a manufacturer says it will. Four stars is great in that the product does exactly what it says it will do. The LBP236dw definitely lived up to my expectations so far. I think it will likely prove to be a solid purchase for your small business and/or for your family.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The features on this machine are great. Everything was easy to set up and use. Wireless, very clear and fast printing, large paper capacity and many print features available. I love the fact that it has a very high yield rate of printed pages per cartridge, which means spending less for toner long term. It looks slick and has a very nice touch LCD screen to control the printer. I love mine and would definitely recommend.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Laser printer works very well. From set up to using this thing is simple and easy. Prints pretty quick and is clear. Got this for a small business and it’s held up very well. My favorite part is being able to work anywhere at home with a laptop and not have to be hook up to it to print.
